Text description provided by the architects. The House of Childhood arises from the understanding that architecture can accompany the growth and natural transformations of a family over time.
Located in Juazeiro do Norte, in the interior of Ceará, the residence was built on a 10 x 30 meter lot, adjacent to the clients' main house, occupying a constructed area of 90 m². The project emerged from a moment of change in the family dynamic: the arrival of twins and the need to create supportive spaces for daily routines.
The main challenge was to create a space dedicated to childhood without making it restrictive or temporary. Thus, the playroom was conceived as a mutable environment, capable of transforming over the years into a study space, workshop, or multipurpose room, adapting to the new demands of the family.
The design solutions prioritize the relationship between interior and exterior. Large openings ensure cross ventilation and natural lighting, essential for thermal comfort in the northeastern hinterland. The windows with low sills serve a dual purpose: besides functioning as benches, they allow children, from their first steps, to observe the world around them from their own height, enhancing sensory experience and connection with the space.
The materials reinforce the emotional dimension of the project. The use of hydraulic tiles in playful patterns, handcrafted by Master Jaime, a craftsman from the Cariri region of Ceará, evokes memories of childhood and local culture, bringing color, texture, and identity to the architecture. The choice of traditional construction solutions from the region aligns with the idea of a space that transcends time.
Completed in 2024, the House of Childhood solidifies as a living space, where first steps, play, and everyday encounters create memories. More than a project for children, it is an architecture designed for the present and open to the future, reaffirming the role of the built space as support for a life in constant transformation.
