The Berlin-based architecture firm COORDINATION is responsible for the scenographic concept behind the redesign and conversion of the Niederrheinmuseum Wesel – one of the largest national exhibition projects of 2025. Visitors can now experience a fully reconceived, interactive museum spread across three floors and more than 2,000 square metres. The exhibition promises an emotional and accessible transportation of the themed worlds of the Lower Rhine region, appealing to visitors of all ages.

起伏的波浪

An Undulating Wave

在全新的常设展览 “与水共生（Living with Water）” 中，COORDINATION与博物馆团队将莱茵河作为贯穿全馆的核心元素。一个起伏流动的“波浪”贯穿首层空间，象征着这条河流作为生命线、思想之流以及历史贸易通道的多重意义。互动装置以富有情感与参与感的方式让历史变得生动。各个主题岛屿在过去与当下之间搭建起桥梁，邀请观众展开对话。

With the new permanent exhibition “Living with Water“, COORDINATION and the museum team place the Rhine at the centre as a unifying element. An undulating “wave” flows through the ground floor, symbolising the river as a lifeline, a stream of ideas and a historic

trade route. Interactive stations bring history to life in an engaging and emotional way. Themed islands build bridges between past and present and invite visitors to enter into dialogue.

可触摸的展览叙事

Exhibition Staging You Can Touch

COORDINATION为本次展览开发了一套以体验为导向的展陈空间设计，通过参与式元素，为观众营造一种与下莱茵地区自中世纪晚期至今的历史建立情感联系的方式。大量触觉与多感官互动装置，使观众能够通过直接、个人化的体验来理解历史内容。

COORDINATION has developed an experience-oriented scenography for the exhibition that uses participatory elements to create an emotional approach to the history of the Lower Rhine region from the late Middle Ages to the present day. Numerous tactile and multisensory stations allow visitors to explore historical content through direct, personal experience.

例如，观众可以触摸纺织样本，了解16世纪沿莱茵河运输的动物皮革与织物类型；在文艺复兴主题区域，一件可展开的人形装置展示了出生于韦瑟尔的佛兰德解剖学家安德烈亚斯·维萨里（Andreas Vesalius）的研究成果；在与印度贸易相关的展区，香料样本通过气味唤起感官记忆。船模与历史展品则展示了莱茵河上的贸易活动，呈现该地区在经济上的重要地位。

For example, visitors can examine textile samples to discover which animal skins and fabrics were shipped along the Rhine in the 16th century. In the Renaissance section, a fold-out figure reveals the findings of Andreas Vesalius, the Flemish anatomist born in Wesel. For the period of trade with India, spice samples invite visitors to experience characteristic scents. Ship models and historical exhibits illustrate trade along the Rhine and convey the region’s economic significance.

多媒体体验

A Multimedia Experience

多样化的媒体装置调动观众的多重感官——从聆听到触摸——以游戏化的方式引导参观。语言主题区域的一大亮点是大型“聆听之墙”：观众可以通过连接至45个扬声器的听音锥，探索下莱茵地区的各种方言。在“钻探游戏”中，观众彼此竞赛，探索莱茵地区地下的地质层结构；而一款“交友应用”式的互动装置，则将当代社交行为与16世纪贵族婚配制度进行对照与关联。

A wide range of media stations engages all the senses – from listening to touching – offering visitors playful access to the exhibition. A highlight in the area of language is the large “listening wall”, where visitors can explore all the dialects of the Lower Rhine via listening cones connected to 45 loudspeakers. In the “drilling game”, visitors compete with each other to explore the geological layers beneath the Rhineland. A “dating app” connects contemporary social behaviour with the practice of aristocratic matchmaking in the 16th century.

A Journey Through History and the Present

COORDINATION的空间叙事有意识地营造出多种不同的体验环境。在首层，“货物流动”这一主题将各个区域串联起来；而在上层，则通过独立的氛围化装置，形成生动而富于变化的参观体验。整体空间以一种友好而充满活力的气质，展现下莱茵地区多元的身份特征——从语言、传统，到社区精神及当代公众人物。贯穿空间的大型拱形结构回应了欧洲历史上连接与分隔并存的关系；中央广场则象征当代欧洲作为交流与相遇之地的形象。

COORDINATION’s spatial dramaturgy deliberately creates different experiential environments. While the “stream of goods” connects all areas on the ground floor, the upper floor features individual atmospheric installations that create a lively and varied experience. A friendly vibrancy reflects the identity of the Lower Rhine in all its diversity – from language and traditions to community spirit and contemporary public figures. Large arches run through the space, addressing the connection and demarcation of Europe throughout history. A central square symbolises present-day Europe as a place of encounter and exchange.

The Lower Rhine Museum presents itself as a modern family museum that brings history to life and promotes cross-border dialogue between Germany and the Netherlands. Thanks to their many years of expertise at the intersection of architecture and exhibition design, and their ability to convey history in a distinctive and engaging way, COORDINATION plays a key role in establishing the LVR-Niederrheinmuseum as a forward-looking, vibrant experiential exhibition that powerfully connects past and present.
