Project Background and Site Conditions
项目位于徐汇区华泾镇,西至景洪路、南至恩乐路,北接华建一街坊,东临西新港。基地用地面积为24749.7平方米,拟建36班完中。
The project is located in Huajing Town, Xuhui District, bounded by Jinghong Road to the west, Enle Road to the south, Huajian 1st Neighborhood to the north, and Xinxin Port to the east. The site area is 24,749.7 m², planned for a 36-class complete secondary school.

项目主要面对两大挑战
The project confronted two major challenges
一是用地条件与周边环境叠加形成的空间约束。基地用地规模有限,容积率为1.5,生均用地面积仅17.15㎡/人,低于规范要求的18.48㎡/人,同时,南侧已建成80m高层住宅,对校园日照形成明显遮挡,基地仅北侧及西北角区域可满足普通教室3小时日照要求,整体可建设余量偏紧。另一方面,基地北侧紧邻幼儿园及多层住宅并贴近红线,进一步反向限制学校建筑的高度与体量,使校园总体布局与空间组织难度显著提升。▼总图区位,Location & Context ©同济原作设计工作室

First, spatial constraints arise from the overlay of limited site conditions and the surrounding context. With a FAR of 1.5, the per-student land area is only 17.15 m²/person—below the required 18.48 m²/person. Meanwhile, an 80 m-high residential tower to the south significantly blocks daylight for the school; only the northern side and the northwest corner can meet the 3-hour daylight requirement for standard classrooms, leaving little buildable margin overall. In addition, a kindergarten and mid-rise residences sit close to the site boundary on the north, further constraining the height and massing of the school buildings and substantially increasing the difficulty of overall planning and spatial organization.

二是办学功能复合度高,对空间整合提出更高要求。项目除需满足36班完全中学的常规教学功能外,还需配置游泳池、室内体育馆、大礼堂、图书馆、校史馆、报告厅等多类型公共与特色活动空间,功能种类多、体量需求大,在有限用地条件下对建筑布局、竖向组织及共享空间的统筹整合提出了更高挑战。
Second, the high degree of programmatic complexity demands stronger spatial integration. Beyond the standard teaching functions for a 36-class complete secondary school, the project must include a swimming pool, indoor gymnasium, grand auditorium, library, school history museum, lecture hall, and other diverse public and special activity spaces. The wide range of uses and large volume requirements raise the challenge of coordinating layout, vertical organization, and shared spaces within a constrained site.

设计策略
Design Strategy
建设空间与日照条件高度受限的影响下,校园已不再是可以被单一功能与尺度逻辑轻易定义的对象。我们所面对的,是在有限用地中容纳完整办学体系、并同时回应城市环境与学生成长需求的复杂命题。我们并未将约束视为消极前提,而是将其转化为重新理解校园空间的起点。基于此,我们以“学习”为核心方法论,从城市、自然与他人三个维度进行策略回应,构建共生的校园生态。
Under highly constrained buildable area and daylight conditions, the school can no longer be easily defined by a single functional or scalar logic. What we confront is a complex proposition: accommodating a complete educational system on limited land while responding to the urban environment and students’developmental needs. Rather than treating constraints as negative premises, we transform them into a starting point for rethinking school space. Accordingly, we take “learning” as the central methodology and develop strategies across three dimensions—city, nature, and others—to build a symbiotic school ecology.

01向城市学习:从条块分明到多维叠合的复合校园
01 An Overlapping Frame Integrating Diverse Functions
我们从城市要素中提取空间秩序与组织逻辑,以“向城市学习”的姿态回应复杂而严苛的场地条件。校园整体布局面临多重约束,我们并未回避这些限制,而是通过对城市复合空间的转译,将其转化为校园空间生成的内在动力。
We draw spatial order and organizational logic from the city, turning a demanding and complex site into a clear framework for planning. As the overall school layout faces multiple constraints, we do not avoid these limitations; instead, we translate the logic of urban mixed spaces into an internal driver for generating school space.

建筑以六组递进式合院组织教学、实验、行政与公共活动功能,在有限用地中实现动静分区与空间层次的逐步展开。首层布置特色教室与共享学习街巷,连接城市界面,形成可渗透的公共边界;二层连续长廊构成风雨无阻的校园环路,串联操场与教学组团,既是日常出操与通行的主要路径,也是承载着交流与停留的活力间层;三层及以上设置教室教学空间,通过与活力间层相连的纵向宽敞的景观楼梯联系各院落空间,构建起多层次、可参与的学习场景。
The architecture organizes teaching, labs, administration, and public activities into six progressive courtyard clusters, enabling a clear separation of active and quiet zones and a gradual unfolding of spatial layers within a limited footprint. The ground floor accommodates special classrooms and shared learning streets, connecting to the urban edge and forming a permeable public boundary. A continuous second-floor corridor creates an all-weather loop within the school, linking the sports field and teaching clusters; it serves both as the primary route for daily circulation and assemblies and as a vibrant interlayer that supports interaction and pause. From the third floor upward, standard teaching spaces are arranged, connected to each courtyard via generous vertical landscape stairs tied to the active interlayer—constructing multi-level, participatory learning scenes.

多维度的空间组织共同塑造出一种“横向开放、纵向贯通”的校园体系,使建筑在密集环境中依然保持通透、流动与呼吸感。体育场馆采用半地下布置,成为校园中的一种“城市层叠策略”:通过将功能向下延展,释放地表空间,顶层形成连续的田径跑道与天然草坪球场,在紧凑场地中实现运动、景观与教学空间的上下复合。
This multi-dimensional organization shapes a school system that is “horizontally open and vertically connected,” allowing the buildings to remain transparent, flowing, and breathable within a dense context. The sports facilities are partially sunken, acting as an urban “layering strategy” within the school: by extending functions downward, ground-level space is released, while the roof forms a continuous running track and natural turf field—achieving vertical overlap of sports, landscape, and teaching spaces on a compact site.

项目在立面材料选择上以徐汇公学作为重要历史参照,以当代方式对这一文脉加以转译:建筑以陶砖与清水混凝土作为主要材料语言,陶砖延续传统校园建筑所蕴含的温度与记忆,清水混凝土则以清晰克制的构造表达回应现代建造理性。两种材料在比例、肌理与光影变化中相互交织,塑造出“可触摸、可感知、有温度”的校园气质。校园与城市、室内与室外相互嵌合。建筑通过退台、连廊、通透界面与材质回应周边尺度,既延续街区肌理,又在城市密度之中构建出一个具有开放精神与成长弹性的教育场所。
In façade material selection, the project references Xuhui Public School as a key historical precedent and translates this lineage in a contemporary manner. Terracotta brick and fair-faced concrete form the primary material language: the brick continues the warmth and memory embedded in traditional school architecture, while fair-faced concrete responds to modern construction rationality through clear, restrained tectonic expression. Interwoven through proportion, texture, and shifting light and shadow, the two materials shape a school character that is “tactile, perceptible, and warm.” The school interlocks with the city, and the interior interweaves with the exterior. Through setbacks, covered corridors, permeable interfaces, and material articulation, the architecture responds to the surrounding scale—continuing the neighborhood texture while establishing an educational place with openness and adaptive capacity for growth within urban density.

02 A Free-flowing Base Connecting Nature And Education
我们向自然学习其系统性、渗透性与多样性,将校园整体构建为一个全域融通、立体渗透的生态基盘,实现建筑、教育与自然无界融合。
Inspired by nature’s systems, permeability, and diversity, the school is conceived as a connected, multi-level ecological base—where architecture, education, and landscape flow seamlessly into one another.

将“微缩的自然”嵌入六组合院之中,通过引入形态、尺度与季相各异的植物配置体系,种植大草坪、胡椒木、大吴风草、枫树、乌桕、银杏、朴树及蕨类等多层次、多物种植被,构建一套“合而不同”的自然图谱,使各组庭院在整体统一中呈现差异化特征,为师生提供丰富而连续的自然认知与体验模块。
“Miniaturized nature” is embedded into the six courtyard clusters. By introducing a planting system with varied forms, scales, and seasonal characters—featuring lawns, pepper trees, Farfugium japonicum, maples, Chinese tallow trees, ginkgo, hackberry, and ferns among others—we construct a natural atlas of “unity with difference.” Each courtyard gains a distinct identity within an overall coherence, offering teachers and students rich and continuous modules for experiencing and understanding nature.

通过流动开放的“间层”系统,水平向游走串联各生态院落,将六组孤立的院落编织成连续、立体的绿色网络,促进人与自然的随机邂逅和全域探索。“间层”灵动变化,巧妙运用借景、对景、框景等手法,结合叠涩等建构语言,在有限的方寸间拓展视觉深度与意境,使自然景致渗透于每一个观看与停留的瞬间。
Through a fluid and open “interlayer” system, horizontal movement links the ecological courtyards and weaves the six otherwise separate courtyards into a continuous, three-dimensional green network—encouraging spontaneous encounters with nature and school-wide exploration. The interlayer shifts and adapts, employing borrowed views, axial views, and framed views, together with layered tectonic articulation, to expand visual depth and atmosphere within limited dimensions—allowing natural scenery to permeate every moment of looking and lingering.

生态空间体系柔化了室内外界限,让阳光在立体街巷中流动,微风穿越教学庭院,植物沿廊道蔓生,使学习、运动、休憩等活动都与自然相互渗透,使校园每一层面都浸润在绿色生态之感中。
This ecological spatial system softens the boundary between inside and outside: sunlight flows through three-dimensional streets, breezes cross teaching courtyards, and planting extends along corridors. Learning, sports, and rest all interpenetrate with nature, immersing every layer of the school in a green ecological experience.

03向他人学习:从封闭教室到包容共享的无界学习空间
03 An Unobstructed Interlayer Supporting Informal Learning
我们以“向他人学习”为核心,强调校园中人与人之间的共处与互动。空间成为沟通与启发的媒介,而非单向的教学容器。间层空间与院落体系共同构成了多样的灰空间系统,促进师生之间的自然相遇与交流。与此同时,校园内部设置了大量多义学习空间——这些空间既可作为阅读角、展示区、社团活动区,也可随使用节奏转化为讨论、演讲、表演的场所。它们没有被单一功能定义,而以“开放性”鼓励学习的自由发生,使教育活动突破教室边界,延伸至生活的各个角落。
The design centers on everyday interaction: spaces are shaped to bring people together and spark exchange, functioning as a shared social setting rather than a one-way teaching container. Interlayer spaces and the courtyard system together form a diverse set of in-between spaces that encourage natural encounters and exchanges between teachers and students. Meanwhile, the school includes a large number of polyvalent learning spaces—serving as reading corners, display areas, or club zones, and shifting with daily rhythms into venues for discussion, speeches, or performances. Rather than being defined by a single function, they use openness to enable learning to happen freely, allowing educational activities to break beyond classroom boundaries and extend into every corner of daily life.
