Twenty-five years after first opening up shop in downtown Sydney, ZIMMERMANN has upped the ante with a brand new boutique in the area. The high-end womenswear brand has secured a 357 sqm. (3,843 sq.ft.) unit on the fourth floor of Westfield Sydney shopping centre, rubbing shoulders with the boutiques of peers from fashion’s upper echelon, such as Saint Laurent, Prada, Miu Miu, CELINE and Burberry. The interior design, created by Australian interior design practice and longtime collaborator studio mcqualter, is another exercise of plush boudoir style, and sees a number of interconnected rooms, each meticulously decorated. The design concept starts with the façade which is covered in rough-cast cement render, custom handmade ceramic tiles, and aged copper accents. The main window is adorned with a large striking painting by Aboriginal Australian artist Fabian Brown Japaljarri, a bold nod to the sophisticated visual layering inside the store.

Italian green custom terrazzo flooring and high-gloss white walls create a bright, elevated environment across three retail spaces, showcasing the latest apparel collections. In contrast, the adjoining rooms are more intimate yet equally high on style and detail, featuring high-gloss yellow walls, layered artworks, and a mix of terrazzo tiles and striped rugs. In The accessories area of the new ZIMMERMANN store blends function and art full-on through a collaboration with Indonesian artist Arwin Hidayat, that sees a freestanding wardrobe transformed into a sculptural centrepiece. Navigating through a mirrored hallway, shoppers arrive in a homey lounge setting flooded by daylight, furnished with leather sofas, and two achingly elegant Ribbon chairs by Pierre Paulin, and embellished with artworks by artists Matt Fearns and Curtis Jeré. Right behind the lounge sit the mirror-panelled fitting rooms and the plush appointment room, featuring a setting with fabric-lined walls, a vintage armoire, and Eero Saarinen animal-print chairs. © superfuture
