AK Plaza Bundang unveils MUSEUM.C, a reimagining of its long-standing cultural academy into a contemporary cultural platform positioned at the intersection of retail, media, and experiential design. Defined as “a cultural hub that collects and connects meaningful content, ” the project introduces the first immersive, media-driven cultural space within a department store, challenging conventional expectations of retail architecture.

Rather than replicating typical classroom-based cultural centres, MUSEUM.C reinterprets the typology through experiential and adaptive architecture. The space supports a wide range of programmes-from wellness sessions and media-art experiences to film screenings, culinary workshops, and humanities lectures-reflecting AK Plaza’s ethos of “bringing the extraordinary into the everyday.”

Located along a major circulation spine, the entrance operates as an atmospheric threshold that disrupts the predictable rhythm of the retail environment. A long arched tunnel, compressing then expanding, guides visitors through a calibrated spatial sequence that heightens anticipation and resets the sensory pace within the windowless department store interior.

Inside, MUSEUM.C unfolds as a transformable interior landscape defined by movable walls that retract seamlessly into the arched ceiling. This system allows the venue to shift effortlessly between small-scale workshops, larger events, and open exhibition formats while maintaining visual continuity and spatial clarity.

At the centre, a 7-metre-high media arch anchors the project. Engineered for full Projection mapping, the curved surfaces enable nearly 270 degrees of immersive visual ontent, enveloping audiences and blurring the line between architecture and media. The curved language continues into adjoining rooms, where softly arched ceilings create a cohesive sensorial environment.

By breaking from the habitual flow of the department store, MUSEUM.C creates moments of pause, discovery, and immersion within an otherwise commercial setting. The project positions itself as a new cultural anchor—one that redefines how retail spaces can host meaningful, transformative experiences.
