Following the opening Dior Seongsu in Seoul in 2022 and Dior Gold House in Bangkok two years later, the iconic fashion house has shifted its focus to Tokyo to set up an ephemeral concept store in the Daikanyama area. As of late, the Japanese capital is home to Dior Bamboo Pavilion, a new retail space that’s housed in a similar structure as the aforementioned stores. Designed in-house, the façade takes ample cues from Dior‘s flagship store on avenue Montaigne in Paris, but here, it’s largely crafted, as its name already implies, from bamboo dipped in a shiny gold hue. Needless to say, Dior Bamboo Pavilion is adorned with a star on the roof, a magical symbol for founder Christian Dior, and only given to specific Dior flagship stores across the planet.
The premises are quite large, measuring no less than 1,800 sqm. (19,375 sq.ft.), and featuring a myriad of elegant settings where shoppers can indulge in Dior‘s elaborate women’s and men’s collections. The store layout is centred around a central space, while codes blend French sophistication with Japanese craftsmanship, featuring Versailles-style parquet flooring, ceilings and walls finished with a poetic touch of washi paper, and embossing which reference Parisian mouldings. Additionally, the Dior Bamboo Pavilion is dotted with lush plants, and speaking of which, the outdoor garden has been landscaped according to Zen principles by Seijun Nishihata, a renowned landscape designer.
The area around the entrance sees artworks by cult floral artist Azuma Makoto. Further anchoring the interior design’s Japanese element, the retail space presents various furniture designs by Japanese talents, including Sho Ota, Hana Mitsui, TAKT PROJECT, Ayumi Shibata, CHIKAKEN and we+. Dior Bamboo Pavilion stocks women’s and men’s apparel, accessories, bags and small leather goods, shoes and jewellery pieces, in addition to limited-edition items. And what’s a concept store without a spot where to sit back and indulge in gastronomy? Indeed, Dior Bamboo Pavilion readily accommodates with Café Dior, situated in a separate space and also decorated by floral artist Azuma Makoto, and serving a menu by Michelin-starred French chef Anne-Sophie Pic. © superfuture
