《Fractal Swarm》诞生于坦桑尼亚平原的辽阔旷野,是Vincent Leroy创作的一件场地特定动态装置。作品与周围环境建立起直接对话,使风、光与地平线共同塑造其在空间中的存在方式。
Conceived within the vast openness of the Tanzanian plains, Fractal Swarm is a site-specific kinetic installation by Vincent Leroy. The work establishes a direct dialogue with its surroundings, allowing wind, light, and the horizon to shape its presence in space.

该装置呈现为一组超轻质的分形结构,由重复的模块化单元构成,其中部分通过3D打印技术制作。基于几何重复与自相似原理,这一数学系统最初生成一种严谨、近乎抽象的形态。然而,在运动与环境互动的过程中,结构逐渐转变为一种有机而鲜活的形象。
The installation unfolds as an ultra-light fractal structure composed of repeated modular elements, partially produced through 3D printing. Based on geometric principles of repetition and self-similarity, this mathematical system initially generates a rigorous, almost abstract form. Yet through movement and environmental interaction, the structure gradually shifts into an organic, living figure.

分形几何呼应着周围景观——无叶的金合欢树、干旱植被,以及旱季特有的干裂与碎片化结构——仿佛装置在视觉上延展了这片土地自身的纹理与秩序。
The fractal geometry echoes the surrounding landscape — leafless acacia trees, arid vegetation, and dry, fragmented structures characteristic of the dry season — as if the installation visually extends the patterns of the territory itself.

纤薄的镜面金属片捕捉并折射平原上强烈的光线。随着时间推移,变幻的反射使结构在视觉上不断游移,在强烈的存在感与几近消隐之间来回转换。
Thin mirrored fins capture and diffract the intense light of the plains. Throughout the day, shifting reflections animate the structure, causing it to oscillate between strong visual presence and near disappearance.

《Fractal Swarm》完全由风力驱动,持续回应不断变化的大气条件。各个单元自主地摆动、旋转与颤动,而整体形态则缓慢地重新组织。从远处观望,群体运动令人联想到飞鸟掠过天空时稍纵即逝的队形。
Entirely activated by wind, Fractal Swarm continuously responds to changing atmospheric conditions. Individual elements oscillate, rotate, and tremble autonomously, while the overall form slowly reconfigures itself. From a distance, the collective motion recalls the fleeting formations of bird flocks crossing the sky.
