ABOUT
Llyceum Bakery is a café with its own bakery in the center of Moscow, which combines restrained minimalism, an atmosphere of school nostalgia, and well-thought-out space logistics. We created an interior that works not only on the visual effect, but also on the feeling: when you just feel good to be inside, you want to stay, talk, eat something fresh and tasty - and stay a little longer.
The project was inspired by the school theme - but not literally, but emotionally. There will be no desks with tablecloths or pointers on the walls. We conveyed a familiar mood through materials, textures and shapes: wood, soft textile backrests, laconic shapes, a little red - and silence, in which you can hear someone taking a bite of a fresh croissant.
LOCATION
The café is located on Ostozhenka, one of Moscow's central streets. Historic buildings, rich in detail, a balance of old and new. We didn't want to make the interior too modern - it would have fallen out of context. Instead, we tried to make a space that feels in its place: light, tidy, without fuss.
DESIGN
Before the renovation, it was two separate spaces: a coffee shop and a shawarma outlet. We dismantled the partitions, and what was left was an uneven box with indirect walls and highly displaced geometry. The ceilings are almost 4 meters, for which we were grateful: it allowed us to work with light and air.
The main task was to combine several zones inside a small meter: an open kitchen, a reception/storefront, a place for take-away and different seating scenarios: from private to communal. All this - with minimal visual noise. The palette is based on a warm, muted palette. Light wood, creamy shades, matte surfaces. The main accent is deep red, which sounds in the bar counter and tabletop. This is the color that gathers the interior and makes it memorable.
The oval lacquered bar counter in the center is like an anchor. It is slightly elevated, seeming to float above the floor. Visually, it unites the kitchen and the cafe front.
The zoning glass partition between the entrance and the main hall is a modern interpretation of a blackboard. Here you can leave chalk messages, update your mood, write menus. This blackboard is not a decoration, but a living part of the cafe.
FURNITURE
All furniture is designed according to our drawings to fit perfectly into the space. The chairs are imported from Europe, the wooden tables are reminiscent of school desks, and the upholstered headboards in the window area add comfort. A long wooden table is placed in the center for common seating or large companies - it creates an atmosphere of lively communication.
LIGHT
Lighting plays an important role in the project. We chose fixtures from Vibia and Aledo, which provide soft, cozy light, emphasizing the textures of wood and textiles. The lighting accents add depth to the interior and create a comfortable atmosphere for guests.
DETAILS
We paid attention to tactile materials in the areas that guests interact with directly. Wood and textiles make the space warm and small details make it lively. On the shelves there are books selected by Harry Tatintsyan Gallery, which adds individuality to the space. The red tabletop is a separate story. The contractors refused to do it for a long time, doubting the result, but when the work was completed, they recognized that it was perfect.
Llyceum Bakery is a cafe where the interior is not a drag, but a backdrop for a good time. Here you can eat, think, meet or be alone. We tried to make a space that you want to come back to. Not as a school, but as a place where everything is clear, cozy and to the point.
