Over the past few years, Dagestan has become a popular tourist destination and presented us with many interesting projects. Therefore, creating a guesthouse in Makhachkala, at the request of our regular clients, to accommodate their business partners or tourists, was an exciting challenge for our team.

We analyzed apartments in Russia and around the world and discovered that interiors there are often impersonal. They look the same in Turkey as they do in Moscow. So we set ourselves the goal of reflecting the local culture in the guesthouse's interior, but in a sophisticated way, so that visitors could have a memorable stay.

INSPIRATION

The building itself is small, hidden from the bustling streets in a leafy courtyard. The guest rooms are located on the second floor of the building and have a separate entrance. We needed to provide two guest bedrooms, a shared living room, and a bathroom on this floor.

The living room was meant to be a focal point, inviting guests to communicate here. However, the room was quite small, and the windows and low ceilings only heightened the feeling of tightness. We used several expressive techniques to avoid this: one wall was highlighted with mirrored panels, the ceiling was decorated with wooden beams, and the windows were hidden behind sliding partitions. This made the living room feel more spacious and elevated.

We designed the bedrooms differently to allow guests to choose a room to their taste. The small windows were concealed with Japanese curtains, which softly diffuse the daylight. Freestanding wardrobes with carved and woven fronts became part of the overall design, adding tactile expression to the interior.

The bathroom is hidden behind a closet facade and resembles a sandy cave with rays of light shining through. We also worked with lighting throughout the space: there are numerous spotlights and backlights to create a relaxing atmosphere in the evening which was the main scenario.
