APARTMENT | SAINT PETERSBURG | 152 M2

This residential apartment is located in a new residential complex in the heart of St. Petersburg, adjacent to New Holland Island. The project was created for a family permanently residing abroad but desiring a private retreat in the city on the Neva for vacations and occasional visits. The clients' primary wish was to recreate the unique atmosphere of true St. Petersburg in the interior.

The project concept is a dialogue of eras. The central idea was to harmoniously blend the classical motifs of the 19th-century northern capital with the laconic language of modern architecture. Recognizable elements provide a historical foundation: intricate ceiling moldings, wooden window frames, elegant wall moldings, and a combination of dark, vibrant colors. However, to ensure the interior meets the needs of a modern person, we added bold and laconic solutions. The central element, around which the entire composition is built, is a monumental marble kitchen island. Its understated form and cool sheen contrast with the warmth of the classic details, creating a dynamic and harmonious balance. This dialogue of eras creates the unique character of the apartment—warm, detailed, with the spirit of old St. Petersburg, yet completely modern in its functionality and content.

The apartment's layout is clearly divided into public and private areas. The kitchen-living room includes a spacious round bay window. Here, the whole family will gather around a large dining table.

The owners' family icon served as an intriguing starting point for the design of this area. Despite its modest size, it set the tone for the entire living room color palette. A rich burgundy sofa responded to it—the most striking accent in the space. Its color scheme is complemented by a patterned rug and complex, veined burgundy marble in the kitchen. Brass details in the furniture and trim, adding a warm glow to the interior, serve as a unifying element for the entire area.

The private area is designed in a more subdued palette. A classic bedroom set creates an elegant and tranquil atmosphere. However, a modern spirit permeates here too, thanks to a striking element: a cube-shaped ribbed glass partition that divides the space and separates the bedroom from the bathroom. This feature not only adds a contemporary touch to the interior but also fills it with a play of light and shadow, creating a sense of airiness.

The result is an interior in which a respectful attention to the history and context of St. Petersburg is seamlessly intertwined with clear and convenient solutions for modern living. The apartment not only blends into the urban environment, but also becomes a modern and stylish extension of it.
