DOT. Coffee & Matcha in Warsaw is the third location of an international chain of conceptual urban coffee shops. The 67 sq m space occupies a former power station building, lending the project a distinctly industrial character from the outset.

Defined by large stained-glass windows and minimalist, functional solutions, the interior rethinks the coffee shop as a fully fledged urban social space. Unlike DOT’s Kyiv locations, which are primarily oriented towards a takeaway format, the Warsaw café is designed for staying – encouraging visitors to linger, spend time, and interact with one another. A tiered seating area promotes informal communication: guests sit at different levels, talk, and observe the life unfolding around them. The idea works on the principle of a communal table, but without the table itself.

Urbanism is the central theme of the interior, expressed through both materials and graphics. The floor resembles asphalt, while its markings reference urban infrastructure—a pedestrian crossing in the main hall and parking lines in the restroom.

The minimalist design relies on a restrained yet expressive palette of materials and textures: stone and carpet flooring, stainless steel, and reclaimed wood. This honest material language creates a recognizable atmosphere and underscores the character of the space without overwhelming it with detail. Acoustic comfort is addressed through the use of acoustic foam on the ceiling, reducing reverberation in a compact environment where coffee equipment, music, and lively conversations coexist.

At the heart of the interior is a massive bar counter made from reclaimed wooden beams. It integrates the coffee machine, matcha station, and dessert display, and serves as the visual anchor of the space. This heavy, sculptural form is a signature element across all DOT locations. An additional layer of interaction is introduced through the projection of the menu onto the wall behind the bar, as well as the option to play Pac-Man with a joystick while waiting for a drink – an element of play that blends naturally into the urban rhythm and turns a pause into an experience.

“We wanted to create an interior that reflects the essence of urban life: within a grey palette, rules, and markings, people find a place to pause, enjoy warm communication, coffee, matcha, and small everyday pleasures. It is the ascetic joy of simple moments in a minimal space. DOT is like a dot that shapes our day – and ultimately, our life,” says Dmytro Bonesko, art director and partner at YOD Group.
