Two Teams. One Rhythm: Designing an Office for Focus and Flow
A product tech company at the intersection of service design and consulting
When a growing product tech company decided to move to a larger space, they faced a unique challenge: how to separate parallel processes for two teams while preserving a shared culture. The solution? A mature hybrid workspace designed around the team's natural rhythm — deep focus during the day, quick sync hubs, and end-of-week demos.
Design Philosophy
The office follows a simple yet powerful principle: focus → quick catch-up → back to focus. Every design decision supports this rhythm, creating an environment where concentration and collaboration coexist without conflict.
The First Open Space: Building Silence Into Architecture
The main work zone combines warmth and acoustic intelligence. A timber base anchors the space, while distinctive acoustic "waves" flow across the ceiling - silence literally built into the architecture.
Key features:
/ Green planters that separate traffic flows without blocking sightlines
/ Furniture groupings that create micro-zones for different work modes
/ Localized lighting that defines territories and adds visual comfort
/ Natural materials that bring warmth to the technical environment
The design responds to how teams actually work: periods of deep concentration punctuated by brief, focused conversations.
Coffee Points: Gathering Spots That Stay Quiet
The office includes two strategically placed coffee points — a deliberate choice to offload the open workspace without breaking focus.
The Main Coffee Point
A distinctive timber arch creates a "quiet pocket" — a sheltered zone for short conversations and breaks. This architectural element does triple duty: it collects light, softens acoustics, and cleanly separates traffic from the open workspace.
Layout:
/ Bench seating along the wall for quick 10-15 minute stops
/ 2-4 person tables for small group conversations
/ A compact one-plane kitchenette that keeps everything accessible with zero visual noise
/ Strategic placement by windows for natural light throughout the day
/ Direct access to the terrace without crossing work flows
The insight: Having two coffee points prevents crowding and allows the team to pause without disrupting those in deep work mode.
The Second Work Zone: Energy Without Noise
The second workspace introduces terracotta accents — enough character to energize the team without becoming visually loud.
Design elements:
/ Coffered acoustic panels that maintain a steady acoustic background
/ Linear lighting for even, comfortable illumination
/ Green planters that separate flows while preserving daylight
/ Furniture groupings and localized lighting that shape micro-zones for different rhythms
The space adapts to the team's needs throughout the day, supporting both individual focus and spontaneous collaboration.
Informal Zone: Quick Thinking, Clear Boundaries
A modular sofa provides the perfect setting for quick 5-10 minute brainstorms and mental breaks. The concentric ceiling feature above creates intimacy and serves as a clear visual anchor — you know when you've entered a different mode.
Smart details:
/ Nearby greenery screens noise from workstations
/ Furniture that supports both relaxed postures and engaged discussion
This zone acknowledges that creative work isn't always done at a desk — sometimes the best ideas emerge in a more relaxed setting.
This office demonstrates that great workspace design isn't about trends or aesthetics alone — it's about understanding how your team works and creating an environment that supports their natural rhythm. By carefully orchestrating zones for focus, collaboration, and renewal, the design allows two teams to operate independently while maintaining their shared culture.
