This competition was organized in collaboration with Accademia Italiana and Officine Gullo.
The design language combines luxury with geometric , curved shapes and emphasizes the identity of the brand . The renders capture a golden and serene sunset atmosphere.
The aim of the project was to introduce a fresh perspective to their design language while incorporating elements inspired by yachts and marine life. The challenge was to preserve the brand’s identity while introducing innovative concepts.
Officine Gullo is well known for the metal frames on their kitchen doors, which are a signature element of their identity. In this project, I chose to retain this characteristic while introducing a fresh interpretation. I drew inspiration from the sunlight glinting on the ocean surface, which led me to incorporate hammered metal in the central panels, creating a dynamic play of light throughout the day.
The original frame dimensions were preserved, but I softened the overall appearance by introducing spaces between the metal panels.
Additionally, the corner elements were redesigned, further enhancing the light and airy feel of the frames.
Officine Gullo offers a variety of finishes, including matte and glossy paints as well as metal options. For this project, I was inspired by the unique iridescent glow of mother-of-pearl, which shifts in color depending on the viewing angle. I applied this effect as a finish for the kitchen cabinets, creating a dynamic interaction with light and perspective.
As one moves around the space, the cabinets subtly change color, and their appearance evolves throughout the day and with the weather, reflecting the sky’s tones. Here, light and the natural environment become key design elements, working in harmony with the mother-of-pear to produce a beautiful, ever-changing palette.
Additionally, the project required designing furniture pieces that would seamlessly continue the established design language.
