Type: cafe
Area: 65 sq.m
Location: Luxembourg
CONCEPT
Plaz 12 is a coffee shop where warm wood meets cold steel. The space is built around a simple idea: clear geometry and tactile materials create a calm rhythm for a short pause in a busy urban day. The palette is restrained — walnut, stainless steel, microcement, light textured plaster — allowing light to emphasize relief and grain.
Guests enter through deep wooden portals, pass by tall planters with trees, and find themselves facing a central bas-relief wall. Linear tracks and hidden lighting create a soft perspective; sound is muted by fabrics and carpet, while attention gathers in the center.
The counter is a “fold” of solid walnut, joined by a signature U-shaped joint. The base is satin steel; the work line is arranged with precision: espresso group, grinders, water, serving area. On the left — breakfast zone, on the right — a compact self-service and takeaway block. The function is structured like an operation without unnecessary gestures.
In front of the bar is a long communal table on a wooden carpet. In the center — a longitudinal “library” for magazines and albums. Above the table hang two flat disc lamps, giving even, glare-free light for conversation and work.
Along the wall — a soft bench with round side tables on steel supports. One of the tabletops features a U-shaped slot that holds a phone or card — a small but everyday gesture of care for the guest. Low wooden chairs with textured upholstery maintain the overall rhythm — relaxed yet refined.
Wood with pronounced grain, steel surfaces without mirror finish, warm plaster with coarse texture. The floor is cast with a subtle semi-matte sheen. The lighting is layered: tracks for accents, disc pendants for the center, concealed lights for volume. By day, the space remains cool; by evening, it warms and gathers.
Small forms repeat the language of the main hall: walnut panels, satin steel, monolithic sink. Lighting reveals wall texture, fixtures are recessed, storage hidden. Clean geometry and silence — a short pause, a continuation of the same discipline.
