Kasimov

Kasimov is the second largest city in the Ryazan region, located on the left bank of the Oka River, the only one in the region that has received the status of "historical settlement of federal significance".Initially, the town of Meshchersky arose on the territory. The name of the city of Kasimov comes from the name of the Tatar khan, a native of Kazan - Kasim. The Kasimov Khanate also left behind a rich, unique, interesting history.The city is divided into Russian and Tatar parts: the latter includes the Tatar settlement and the Old Posad.

The design area is located in the very center of the city and claims the status of an object that restores the historical visual connections of the city and connects the Tatar part of the city with the Russian one.

The city has several visual connections that create the main framework and set the visual openings, forming compositional nodes. Due to this, the city is interesting to look at from different points, this connection is especially well read from the river.

The area requires attention

It is a connecting line between the Tatar and Russiansettlements. Gubareva Street visually connects the domes of theOrthodox church and the minaret of the Khan's mosque.This most important urban planning axis between the main street and Ascension Cathedral - Axis South-West/North-East and betweenthe ensemble of the Nikolskaya Church and the Khan's mosque - North-West/South-East is now lost due to the uncontrolledgrowth of trees and the lack of regulations for development around these objects.

Befor the park

One of the most important problems of the territory is the overgrown, unkempt trees that block the visual connection with the mosque, thereby breaking the urban framework of the main points of interaction in the urban environment.

Thus, we stop perceiving the city as a whole and see it only in fragments, losing the historical context and breaking up visual connections into close points (houses and Small Architectural Forms).

Current situation

Master plan

The general plan is based on the following solutions:• Development of sidewalk areas on the school square and Sobornaya square.• Formation of a square along Gubareva street with a designated access zone for local residents, while the square retains its visual integrity..• Creation of an alternative landscape-recreational route• Opening up the view of the Khan's mosque and creating new places for recreation• Reconstruction of the staircase with intermediate rest areas and the sidewalks leading to it

Consept

The territory starts from the exit from Sobornaya Square, and develops its architectural idea, which creates a holistic image of the historical center of the city.It is divided into several zones and equipped for the convenience of different users.A comfortable space for schoolchildren with places to rest and the possibility of hosting events is created. The visual opening to the mosque is cleared and enhanced, comfortable rest areas are organized, and observation platforms are created.Thus, the territory gains new life, uniting different generations in one space.

Identity

The designed territory is a logical and spatial continuation of Sobornaya Square, the reconstruction of which began in 2025. It forms a single ensemble with the main historical core of the city, visually and functionally uniting the key architectural dominants - the Ascension Cathedral and the Assumption Church.The solution is based on the principle of dialogue with the existing context. The use of granite tiles and a square pattern echoes the paving of Sobornaya Square, but has been reworked taking into account local features: the direction of laying has been changed, accents have been introduced in tactile and color solutions. Thanks to this, the territory maintainscontinuity, but acquires its own sound.The space's special identity is given by its sound saturation. It is located between a music school and a natural ravine, which fills it with a live audio background: the sounds of classes, birdsong, the rustle of leaves. This inspired us to the key theme of the project - music as a form of urban identity.

Small architectural forms, materials and style refer to the three main layers of the place's identity: history, nature and music. They become not just metaphors, but instruments for the formation of a unique public space, where cultural heritage gains new life through sound, form and interaction.
