Preobrazhenskaya Square

Preobrazhenskaya Square is located in Danilov city. It is 351 kilometers to the north of Moscow. The territory of Preobrazhenskaya Square is a passage for residents. It is mainly a transit for pedestrians and motorists, as well as a transit to the Preobrazhensky pond. Here the religious procession ends on the day of the Transfiguration of the Lord. People reach the monument to the destroyed Preobrazhensky church, which is now just a cross. In the city, the Transfiguration holiday coincides with the City Day. A kindergarten adjoins the square, which is planned to be closed within 2 years.

Functionally, the design area is divided into several zones: a quiet recreation area with a view of the historical area, an observation deck with historical photographs, quiet green areas and a historical active area. The entire area becomes pedestrian due to a change in the type of road transit surface.

The territory of Preobazhenskaya Square provides for a measured pastime, where the main goal for visitors is to calm down and relax with the opportunity to immerse themselves in history.

Preobrazhenskaya Square project

The main task at Preobrazhenskaya Square is the most careful disclosure of its multi-layered historical component. Thus, the square acquires its historical rhombus shape, due to a change in the type of road surface. The visual dominant of the square in particular and the entire city as a whole is restored, due to the creation of a pergola on the site of the Transfiguration Church, thus securing the visual nodes of Danilov. In addition to the memorial function, a convenient recreation area and a platform for chamber events appear.

The pergola is a metal frame structure on the site of the lost Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. It is designed to restore the dominant feature of the square and the lost visual connections of the city. The pergola is installed after archaeological excavations to identify the surviving foundations of the church and their conservation with the installation of pedestrian glass. The architecture of the new structure is light and permeable, it only pays tribute to the church that once existed here, but does not restore or repeat it. De-visualization of the new volume facilitates free movement around the square and the possibility of holding various events there, from church services to wedding photo sessions.

Пергола— конструкция из металлокаркаса на месте утраченного храма Преображения господня. Она призвана восстановить доминанту площади и утраченные визуальные связи города. Пергола устанавливается после проведения археологических изысканий с целью выявления сохранившихся фундаментов храма и их консервации с установкой пешеходного стекла. Архитектура новой конструкции легкая и проницаемая, она лишь отдает дань существующему здесь когда то храму, но не восстанавливает и не повторяет его. Девизуализация нового объема способствует свободному перемещению по территории площади и возможности проводить там мероприятия разного рода, от церковных служб до свадебных фотосессий.
