Project Type: Educational Space Design
Location: Imperial College Egypt - ICE
Year: 2026Project designer: Ahmed El SaftyProject design director: Eng\Mai Moftah
Design & visualization by Artika Studio
The Rubix Playground is an immersive outdoor recreational space designed for a primary school environment. Taking direct inspiration from the iconic Rubik’s Cube, the project aims to stimulate both physical activity and cognitive development through modular, color-coded "zones" that mimic the faces of the puzzle.
The core philosophy of the design is "Modular Logic." Just as the cube requires a sequence of moves to solve, the playground encourages children to navigate a series of physical challenges—climbing, sliding, and balancing—within a structured, grid-based layout.
Blending high-contrast color theory with rigid architectural forms, the Rubix Playground transforms a standard school courtyard into a vibrant landmark. It isn't just a place to play; it’s a three-dimensional puzzle that invites students to interact with geometry on a human scale.
