Text description provided by the architects. Located in Monte Mor, about 100 km from São Paulo and close to Campinas, this country house was designed and built from the ground up by the architectural firm DB Arquitetos, under the authorship of architect David Bastos, who has been serving the family for many years. With 922 m² of constructed area on a 3,177 m² plot, the property was conceived to convey a sense of freedom, integration with nature, and warmth, catering to the requests of a couple in their mid-40s to 50s and their three children.
The design organizes the main house into two floors: the ground floor houses an integrated living and dining room, kitchen, pantry, hall/gallery, intimate room, suites, and service areas, while the lower floor is dedicated to a game room. At the lowest part of the land, a leisure annex integrates a gourmet space, living areas, restrooms, and a swimming pool.
The architecture prioritizes natural materials and construction solutions that reinforce the connection with the surroundings: the mixed structure of concrete and steel beams is clad in wood, present in window frames, doors, panels, and pergolas. The basalt stone flooring and the natural straw ceiling in the pergolas add texture, rusticity, and warmth. The ceiling height of the social area follows the slope of the roof, reaching 6.15 meters at the highest point, enhancing the entry of natural light and the feeling of spaciousness.
The decoration, entirely new, harmonizes materials, colors, and textures based on key choices, such as the caramel leather sofa and the dining table made of Brazilian marble. The palette is predominantly neutral, highlighting wood and stone, with touches of vibrant colors in decorative objects that create personality. Highlights in the social area include planned lighting, a walk-in wine cellar, and integration with the porch and outdoor area. In the leisure annex, the natural stone swimming pool, colorful furniture, and natural straw ceiling reinforce the welcoming character, while the countertop and island in Guatemala green marble add sophistication.
The concept of the house prioritizes social interaction on different scales, from intimate moments by the fireplace to larger gatherings in the gourmet space and dining tables. The biggest challenge of the project was adapting the architecture to the unevenness of the land, a task that, according to David Bastos, "was resolved fluidly, without setbacks." The result is a contemporary residence with a cozy rustic touch that combines integration with nature, the use of natural materials, and solutions designed for comfort and family coexistence. The project, including decoration, was developed over four years, from 2020 to 2024.
