Court House is a 2025 house in Piedmont, CA, United States, by Buttrick Projects Architecture + Design. The complete renovation turns the existing structure into a light-filled interior organized around three courtyards. White walls, rift oak, black dyed wood, and colored stone give the home a restrained but tactile finish.
About Court House
This complete renovation reimagines the existing structure as a light-filled environment defined by clarity and materiality. Three courtyards nest together to shape the generous plan, drawing daylight deep into the interior and setting up a steady rhythm between inside and out.
New surface materials transform the exterior envelope, while narrow steel doors and windows with slender mullions give the elevations crisp lines against the landscaping. Inside, white walls provide room for art, while rift oak floors and cabinets, black dyed wood, and richly colored stone add warmth and weight.
Detailing stays disciplined throughout. Flush baseboards and restrained trim keep the rooms clean and gallery-like, while the owner’s art collection sits against a calm, even field of light.
Sustainability and performance are built into the home’s infrastructure through high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. Natural and artificial light is handled with care, washing the interior softly through day and evening, while crafted chandeliers and custom elements, including a cast-glass entry door side panel, bring in a more tactile register.
