Today, the hotly anticipated HUMAN MADE store officially opens its doors at Central Embassy, one of Bangkok‘s leading luxury shopping playgrounds. The fashion brand by hugely popular Japanese designer and cultural icon Tomoaki Nagao a.k.a. NIGO has secured a spot on Level 2, and also brings along another first to the bustling Thai capital—CURRY UP, a Japanese curry restaurant the creative set up with Tokyo-based chef Kentaro Hashimoto. Occupying two partially glass-encased adjacent units, the interiors of both the retail space and restaurants have been designed by Wonderwall, an acclaimed architecture practice in Tokyo. The floor-to-ceiling glass façade of the HUMAN MADE store instantly reveals its interior to passers-by.
A large cylinder with recessed shelving takes centre stage in the all-white retail space and comes with a smaller, similarly shaped cabinet with a canopy that features a rotating Thai elephant statuette. Mind you, the latter is also depicted on a specially designed collection. The metal sales counter, situated in a recessed nook, ties in with a robust, metal-framed pavilion brimming with apparel items. Across the retail space, next to a window installation and an additional apparel display, another cylinder with bold CURRY UP signage demarcates the restaurant domain. Large white tiles and a latticed ceiling unify the store’s different sections. A special KAWS MADE collaboration with internationally renowned artist KAWS.
The store-exclusive collection features four limited-edition items, including graphic T-shirts, tote bags, and cushions, showcasing KAWS’s iconic character COMPANION embracing the KAWS MADE logo. The restaurant may be very visibly interlocked with the HUMAN MADE store, but it comes with a bright yellow façade and entrance all its own. Still understated yet with just a tad more embellishments, most evidently in the Portuguese-inspired pixelated floor tiles, and pops of yellow, the restaurant seats just 23 guests at a time in various configurations, including bar seating and booths. And as its name already implies, it serves a concise number Japanese-style curries, all paired with soft drinks. Additionally, the dining spot features branded apparel items of its own. © superfuture
