Text description provided by the architects. Set on a corner lot marked by a gentle slope and broad views of the landscape, the JL Residence, completed in 2025, is organized from two independent volumes connected by a single metal structure. Located in Bragança Paulista, in the interior of São Paulo, the house adopts an architectural language that emphasizes structural lightness, transparency, and integration with the vegetation and views of the land.
The choice of a prefabricated metal roof structure assembled on-site allowed for a quick construction process and enabled the creation of wide spans and continuous, integrated spaces. On top of this structure, a sandwich-type metal roof with generous eaves of 2.30 meters was designed, marking the horizontality of the ensemble and ensuring shading efficiency for the facades during the summer months.
The layout respects the original topography: the rear volume—where the garage, service area, game room, and guest suites are concentrated—and the swimming pool were positioned along the natural slope of the land, avoiding major earthworks. The main volume, in turn, is subtly rotated by 10 degrees, creating a level plane of the ground between the building and the pool, and between the building and the rear volume, with an internal garden courtyard defined by foliage that plays a central role in cross ventilation and the connection between the two volumes.
The main volume of the house houses the kitchen, living room, and master suites, articulated by large floor-to-ceiling sliding glass panels that dissolve the boundaries between interior and exterior. The transparency allows the landscape to flow through the spaces from end to end, reinforcing the sense of spaciousness.
The materiality of the project relies on warm and durable solutions: the continuous wooden ceiling unifies the internal spaces, while eco-friendly Arkos wood panels on the facades provide solar control and privacy, creating a striking vertical texture. The ipê trees planted in front of the house serve as a natural light filter, creating a second layer of shading throughout the day.
Subtle differences in floor levels create variations in ceiling heights, enhancing pathways and creating distinct atmospheres throughout the project. The unique kitchen, open to both the living room and the outdoor area, takes center stage in daily life: it operates as a space for daily preparation and as a gourmet area integrated with social activities.
With its careful layout, natural palette, and integration with the surroundings and landscaping, the JL Residence seeks an architecture that acts as a mediator between internal and external spaces, the natural and the built.
