This commercial space design is inspired by ancient cultural philosophies from central China.
Encompassing installation art, lighting design, landscape planting, and soft furnishings. While preserving the original gallery‑style architectural ambiance, we have enhanced the space with dynamic commercial experiences for visitors, unlocking expanded revenue streams and long-term sustainable operational potential.
Centered on the wine house culture of Changsha, the design recreates the lively street scene of lotus leaves covering wine jars with a central installation of lotus-leaf umbrellas.A metallic water curtain hanging outside the elevator interprets the poetic imagery of misty waves on the Xiangjiang River. The escalator’s undulating eaves restore the urban texture of connected roof tiles, infusing the commercial space with the rivers-and-lakes vitality of Hunan’s traditional wine houses.
We have brought the traditional Changsha tea house culture into the shopping mall, creating an urban tea lounge for tea drinking and socializing.
Above, the ceiling is decorated with drapes that imitate old tea houses.Below, green tile shapes in a water feature recreate the scene of raindrops falling.Beside the elevators, digital waterfall screens present the poetic scenery of Yuelu Mountain. The lounge area revives the relaxed atmosphere of old Changsha locals gathering under trees to drink tea and chat.
The entire space is designed to let shoppers experience Changsha’s unique vibrant street life and slow living even while shopping.
The Stretching Tea MountainsStepping into the lofty vaulted space, one feels as if wandering among rolling tea mountains shrouded in mist and clouds.Hunan is renowned for Guzhang Maojian green tea, whose core production area is located at Niujiao Mountain in Guzhang.
The landscape belt is designed around the integration of natural gardens and commerce.
Adopting the design strategy of a garden-style commercial district, it creates a biophilic composite outdoor space through curved tree-surround tables, layered vegetation, and sunshades. With trees as landscape anchors and curved tree-surround tables as core resting nodes, paired with naturalistic planting and modular shading facilities, the design softens commercial boundaries and forms an urban outdoor lounge that is both ecological and social.
A Ritualistic Wine Cellar:The aroma of wine grows richer.Inspired by the century-old brewing workshops that once flourished on Bixiang Street.
The stage at the front of the academy, which also serves as a ceremonial building, features a convex-shaped plan, resting on a stone platform. It has a corrugated vaulted roof for the front porch and a gable-roofed main structure at the rear, echoing Hexi Peak of Yuelu Mountain.
Hexi Platform embodies the transformation of Yuelu Academy from a mountain-based private learning institution into an urban official academy.
Xiangjiang Dragon Boat is the core symbol of Hunan’s Dragon Boat Festival culture, celebrated for its thousand-year heritage, distinctive regional characteristics, and grand folk rituals.
