BUBBLE HOMES
Art installation "BUBBLE HOMES"TORONTO, CANADA | 2021Competition
This installation project is a proposal for the Winter Stations Art Installation Competition in Toronto, Canada. Following the competition’s theme “refuge” we proposed a bubble home as a symbol of warm and safe place. The installation represents eight thermoplastic flexible balls, commonly known as “zorb balls”, the scaffolding structure and the lifeguard stand. The core of the installation is the scaffolding structure placed around the lifeguard stand. The scaffolding holds all eight plastic balls with reinforced fiber ropes. These bubbles fulfill the term “refuge” with joyful, cozy and safe moments. The spheres are made from thermoplastic material, which brings a warm atmosphere, once the visitor is inside the bubble. The materiality and the shape without no sharp angles gives the filling to be “at home”. In addition, the transparency of the texture provides total openness and visual connection between visitors. The important part of this installation are the used materials. All materials are reusable for further purposes. The “zorb balls” can be used for entertaining purposes, or can be transformed into reusable materials. They are totally reusable. This installation is a representation of how to transform regular objects into art object and create an installation, that can bring joy and happiness.Considering the current global political situation, we tried to create an installation that will give the visitors a feeling being safe in a public environment. Once you are inside the bubble, you are isolated from other visitors, but not separated.
