Wicker House is a house in Singapore by Ming Architects, completed in 2024. The home brings open views of water and greenery into a plan that still keeps the bedrooms private, using screens inspired by rattan and a light, tropical palette. Natural materials, bright interiors, and measured pops of colour shape the daily experience from room to room.
About Wicker House
Wicker House is a playful contemporary house, with high-quality natural materials and bright, airy interiors punctuated by intermittent splashes of vibrant colour. The structure opens to views of water and greenery while keeping privacy through screens inspired by rattan.
The architecture suits modern tropical living, with open interiors that still protect the homeowners’ privacy. On the façade, tall white screens filter sunlight and screen the bedrooms, helping the house stay cool in intense heat. Along the living, dining, and dry kitchen areas on the first storey, sliding glass doors run across the walls, opening to a pool and deck and encouraging natural ventilation.
The feature staircase includes a wall of white bricks imported from Australia, set with regular gaps that let air move freely from end to end. That same surface filters light, casting shifting shadow patterns into the adjoining dining and dry kitchen areas.
At the homeowners’ request, the material palette relies on natural finishes. The first storey uses terrazzo flooring and oonewood ceilings, paired with light oak furniture. Rattan appears throughout the house, both in furnishings and in the form of the metal screens and staircase wall with their repeated patterned openings.
Elsewhere, color adds a lively counterpoint to the restrained base. The kitchen carries sky blue cabinets, the pool deck uses burgundy chairs, and the bathrooms are finished with tiles in jade and coral. Together, these details reinforce the free-spirited mood of the home, while natural light continues to move through every living area.
