How are we using the benches?

This project was carried out with these questions in mind. Benches provides a rest to someone, and for some others, it plays a role of looking around their surroundings.

Benches are objects that has the potential to give dynamism to the streets and provide new landscapes. Depending on how a person participates, the role of the bench may vary slightly.

We noted the possibility of the bench playing a more colorful role. It is designed to be used by all ages, the elderly and children, the disabled and the non-disabled in the road for their own purpose.

In order to realize the intuitive design that many people can see, the structure was constructed by a three-dimensional compositor of the alphabet ‘SMILE’, and the lively colors and materials that match the words were used to create a positive atmosphere.

벤치를 어떻게 사용하고 있는지에 대한 고민으로 시작된 프로젝트이다.

벤치는 공공장소에서 중요한 역할을 한다. 누군가에게 쉼을 제공하기도, 주위를 관망하는 역할이 되기도 한다. 벤치가 거리에서 보다 더 다채로운 역할을 해낼 수 있는 가능성을 갖고 디자인하였다.

남녀노소, 노인과 아이, 장애인과 비장애인 모두가 어우러져 편안하게 사용할 수 있게 디자인하였다. 또한 사람들이 알 수 있는 직관적 디자인을 실현하기 위해 'SMILE(웃음)' 이라는 알파벳 글자를 3차원으로 구성하여 구조물로 만들었고, 이에 어울리는 색감과 재질을 사용하여 긍정적인 분위기를 연출하였다.
