A Pressure Reliever For Social Anxiety Coping Modern World

TONBAND means tape recorder in Deutsch, also similarly means "companion(同伴)" in the romanization of Mandarin Chinese.

DESIGN CONCEPT

Ever since the appearance of Facebook, people's biggest entertainment has become the social media. For those who are originally sociable, Social Media is a tool for them to expand its societal ability. But for those who aren't, it could weaken them ever more.

Societal behavior appears at teenager year, the behavior and its result affect how the person would act among people afterwards, it's a key period.

Thus, we design a product for teenagers which provides companionship for stressful social life with art therapy based solution to create and relieve pressure. It has modular feature choice for user to choose and an interactive installation for people to show their creation.

DESIGN CONTENT

TONBAND

is consist of one Coloring Tape and two scrolling button which enable the user to scroll back and force to do the coloring.

BUTTOM CHOICE-

Highly-customed modular enable user to select and change for their Best Button choice to increase reliability.

COLORING TAPE-

A vending machine-like facility is to withdraw your finished tape and replace it with a blank new one. The machine is constantly scrolling to show the result of other finished tapes where you could anonymously show your creation.

COMPANIONSHIP-

Some people would bring a security blanket while traveling to calm them to sleep. We design a simple interaction between user and product to create an emotional connection for the user to rely on. Just like some people rely on their teddy bears.

ART THERAPY-

Coloring is an action that doesn't require complex brain work, just repeatedly simple action. It is very effective pressure-relief also creates something visible at the same time.

THE PROCESS

To testify the hypothesis companionship of product, we cooperated with Taipei Municipal Yucheng High School. Through the little speech we held, we were able to have a closer look at how the teenager interacts with each other in school social life. Also, we have gained credible feedback on things like which button is the most pressure relief one and how appealing is the product, and if they would give it a shot or not.

During product development, we made some foam mock-up to test the shape for portability, ergonomics, and if it's reasonable when everything we hypothesize combined together on one single product. Finally, we have the results shown on the previous page.
