Project - Matsubishi
Completed in 2025.
“Reimagining the old”
Matsubishi, likely the oldest Japanese teppanyaki restaurant in Hong Kong, has maintained its dedication to traditional cooking for over 45 years. To honor this commitment in our new design, we aimed to incorporate more traditional elements of Japan. The torii-inspired tunnel entrance serves as a striking first impression for diners.
“The hidden gems”
Nestled between the torii, the teppanyaki rooms feature unique designs that create distinct experiences for diners. The exhaust hoods, inspired by traditional Japanese lacquerware, stand out as striking highlights against the subtle environment of the room. This design choice pays tribute to the teppanyaki chef; when diners sit down, we want them to look up as if witnessing the chef's performance on stage.
“Matsubishi”
The museum-themed main dining space serves as a journey through Japan, resembling a museum that highlights the country’s rich history. Elements such as lacquerware and the charm of an old Kyoto house combine to create a unique dining experience.
“The Old Kyoto House”
In honor of traditional Japanese culture, the ultimate private dining room is designed as an old Kyoto house, marking the culmination of the journey. This timeless piece of architecture features a round window framed by intertwined bamboo, symbolizing the abstract character “松.” Internally, the decor seeks to replicate the essence of a typical old Kyoto house, creating an authentic and immersive atmosphere.
