Where Material Memory Meets Quiet Drama

This residential project in Barcelona was conceived as a study in controlled contrasts a dialogue between warmth and restraint, between the organic grain of solid wood and the cool discipline of matte black volumes. The design language is deliberate and unhurried, asking the inhabitant to slow down and feel each space before moving through it.

Entrance & Circulation

The entrance sets the entire emotional register of the apartment. Vertical timber slat screens rich in texture and rhythm wrap the space like an architectural embrace, filtering light and framing movement without ever closing it off. Against this warmth, monolithic matte anthracite millwork volumes emerge as silent, geometric anchors. A cylindrical slatted column, a low velvet pouf in charcoal, and a sculptural multi-arm floor lamp on a polished base introduce the layered material vocabulary that runs throughout. Circulation here is choreographed: you move between materials, not just through rooms.

Home Office

The study is a room of focused sensibility. A refined stone-white desk sits against a full-height timber slat backdrop, the wood adding acoustic warmth and visual depth in equal measure. Four circular ribbed wall sconces glowing like architectural suns illuminate a travertine-effect panel wall, casting soft concentric light that makes the room feel both intimate and elevated. The reflection in the floor-to-ceiling mirror multiplies the spatial experience, dissolving the boundary between real and reflected, between work and contemplation.

Bathroom

Perhaps the most sensuously composed space in the apartment, the bathroom operates at a lower register — dimmer, richer, more primal. Oversized travertine-veined tiles clad the walls and floor in continuous luxury. A single pendant in amber glass drops over the stone vanity counter, casting a warm amber pool of light that turns the room into something close to ritual. Matte black vessel sinks sit weightily on the marble shelf, paired with wall-mounted matte black faucets. The familiar slatted timber screen reappears here as a privacy partition between vanity and WC, threading the material language of the entrance back through this most private room.

Living & Kitchen

The living-dining space shifts the palette entirely — lighter, more social, breathing. A sculptural white dining table with softly rounded corners becomes the gravitational center, surrounded by terracotta-orange shell chairs that inject warmth and personality into the otherwise restrained composition. The pendant light above — black steel with twin opaline spheres — floats with playful precision. The kitchen behind retreats into soft greige cabinetry and a marble stone backsplash, while an abstract geometric artwork on the dining wall bridges the tonal gap between the kitchen's pale neutrals and the seating's earthy energy. In the wider view, a floating staircase with timber balusters connects the levels, integrating vertical movement as a design feature rather than a necessity.
