The Iceland Volcano Museum is located in a breathtaking setting, nestled between the serene Myvatn Lake and  the majestic Hverfjall volcano. The area is truly remarkable, with hot springs on one side and the towering Hverfjall

on the other, creating a stark and stunning landscape. This unique location is rich in natural beauty and offers

visitors a truly unforgettable experience.

The idea for the spatial composition of the museum was inspired by the shape of the volcano, which was formed during the settlement era when it was absorbed by lava. The resulting crater of the volcano has become a complex of central volumes in various irregular shapes. From the main  volume, promenades have been created that resemble streams of spreading lava, on which pavilions play with light like fragments. The illumination of the museum is created by placers of glowing kurums.

The main function of the complex is to provide exhibition space, which takes up the largest part of each floor and can host

more than 4 exhibitions at the same time. There is also a cafe on site that can seat 30-40 people. The museum's entire square is designed to accommodate up to 500,000 visitors each year.
