Till's Place
Till, a friend of mine, grew up on a horse farm and was also into mountain biking. He built jumps in his backyard but stopped riding in 2020. Fortunately, he allowed my friends and me to keep changing them. This is what the jump looked like before we made any changes. It was too flat to practice tricks safely or stay in the air for long, so we worked on reshaping it to make it more functional and fun to ride.
We used only shovels to move the dirt from the take-off, digging it out and transporting it step by step to build up the landing. Since this spot was on private ground, unlike the others, we were able to build the take-off out of wood, making it more solid and consistent. The wooden takeoff also required less maintenance compared to dirt, staying in shape even after heavy use, as well as resisting wind, rain, and other weather conditions. By gradually adding and compacting each layer of dirt, we turned it into a proper step-up jump again, with a taller landing that made it easier and safer to practice tricks.
I built a small step-up next to the main jump to practice tricks that don’t require much airtime. It was a great way to get comfortable with new moves before trying them on the bigger jump
Here are a few shots of my friends and me riding the jump.
