VIP3D Software Study

This is the first project I put together using the software. I was quite impressed, particularly on the rendering capabilities. It is surprising how quickly you can mockup a simple pool design and view it in 3D. You can see some of the renders from this project below. I have also included a short review of the software at the end of this page.

All in all, I think this is a great piece of software that could prove invaluable to a custom pool builder / designer. I did find the process of designing a pool using the software a little strange because all of the "drawing" happens in 2D space. In order to see anything in 3D, you click a button that transitions the view to 3D. While in 3D view you cannot make any substantial changes to the pool design or layout. In fact, the only things you can do in 3D view are add assets like plants and chairs, or change out materials of items in the project. With the other software I have used in the past, I am accustomed to working in 3D first, especially in the ideation phase, and usually only transition to 2D later to develop architectural drawings. The benefit of this software is that once you are happy with the look and feel of the project in 3D, your 2D plan view is already complete. However, there will still be a need for ACAD or similar to program to develop 2D section views for construction documents. It may also be worth noting that this software is a little on the expensive side. You may only "lease" the software by making annual or monthly payments. Once you stop making payments you will no longer be able to use to software. I must also note that their customer service is incredibly responsive! With all this in mind, I would recommend this software to others.
