Maw’el Mosque
An Adaptive Modular Mosque Prototype - Built to Grow!
Ghaith Competition 2025 | shortlisted!
Concept
The project envisions a contemporary mosque that redefines traditional typology through a modular, adaptable, and sustainable system. Designed as a flexible prototype, it responds to different contexts and community needs with efficiency, speed, and environmental responsibility. Beyond worship, it acts as a social and cultural catalyst, hosting diverse activities. Its modular framework allows it to expand and transform over time — from a daily prayer space to a larger communal environment. Using local materials, prefabrication, and passive strategies, the design ensures durability, comfort, and reduced energy use.
Ultimately, it proposes a new architectural language for mosques that balances tradition with adaptability and sustainability.
Vision
The vision is to establish a new generation of mosques that evolve with their communities, responding to changes in scale, climate, and social needs. These mosques are flexible, inclusive, and sustainable, fostering a deep connection between faith, people, and place. They aim to become living, dynamic landmarks that nurture spiritual life while supporting social interaction and community resilience — embodying a balance between tradition and modernity.
Thank you!
