A Journey Through Books, Steps, and Adventure—A Store Design That Inspires Imagination!

走进一家书店本身就像一场魔法——一个充满无限可能的领域，每一步都邀请人们漫游、停留与发现。Primarc书店——“故事项目”正体现了这一特质，将一个仅约1000平方英尺的紧凑空间转化为一个集书籍、游戏、玩具与文具于一体的一站式场所，同时保持了开放而高效的空间布局。尽管面积有限，空间却充分利用了7米的高度，从经典图书馆以及印度阶梯井的建筑遗产中汲取灵感，营造出多层次的空间结构。

Walking into a bookstore is pure sorcery—a realm of infinite possibilities where every step invites you to wander, linger, and discover. Primarc Bookshop—The Story Project embodies this essence, transforming a compact 1,000 sq. ft. space into a one-stop place dedicated to a vast collection of books, games, toys, and stationery while maintaining an inviting and functional layout. Despite its compact footprint, the store leverages its 7-metre height, drawing inspiration from classic libraries and the architectural legacy of Indian stepwells to create a multi-layered spatial setting.

Designed to guide you through a layout that connects, organises, and inspires at every level.

空间布局整合了三层相互连接的步道系统，取消了底层结构支撑的需求，从而形成开放的流线组织。这些步道通过一系列台阶相连，不仅引导行进，也兼作展示精选藏品的空间。这一结构上的巧思在增强连通性的同时，也实现了私密性的平衡，并扩展了可使用面积。区别于传统图书馆常见的螺旋楼梯，受阶梯井启发的楼梯鼓励探索，以流畅的方式连接各层，并为空间增添互动性。

The layout incorporates three levels of interconnected walkways, eliminating the need for ground-level structural supports and ensuring an open circulation plan. These walkways are linked by a series of steps that not only guide movement but also double as spaces for displaying curated collections. This structural ingenuity expands the usable floor space, striking a balance between connectivity and privacy. Departing from the traditional spiral staircases often found in libraries, the stepwell-inspired staircase invites exploration, seamlessly connecting the levels and adding an interactive dimension to the space.

书店的每一个细节都经过精心设计，以提升功能与体验。悬挂于上方的步道由厚度仅25毫米的花纹钢板构成，在尽量减少材料使用的同时保证结构强度，实现简洁、优雅且富有体验感的设计。楼梯下方的空间被巧妙利用为展示区，形成层层叠叠的精选陈列，体现出细致的设计思考。这种对空间的高效利用，使书店能够容纳比其此前5000平方英尺旧址更丰富的藏品，展现了设计在功能效率与创造力之间的平衡。

Every detail of the bookstore is thoughtfully curated to enhance utility and experience. The walkways, suspended from the top, are constructed from checkered sheets with a slim 25mm thickness, balancing structural integrity with minimal material use and ensuring a simple, elegant, and highly experiential design. The spaces beneath the staircases are cleverly utilised as display areas, creating layers of curated collections that reflect a mindful design approach. This ingenious use of space allows the bookstore to house a more expansive collection compared to its previous 5,000 sq. ft. location, showcasing the utilitarian efficiency and creativity of the design.

设计充分回应不同访客的需求，营造出一种沉浸式体验。静谧的阅读角被策略性地布置在空间之中，在繁忙环境中提供安静的停留之所。受传统狭窄通道图书馆的启发，空间通过动态的组织方式鼓励上下流动，使其对各年龄层访客都具有吸引力与可达性。台阶本身被巧妙整合为阅读座位，访客可以坐下阅读，同时仍处于空间流动之中。沿路径布置的书架进一步强化了互动性与层次感。紧凑且高效的空间与精心设置的停留节点之间的相互作用，使书店从一个普通零售空间转变为一段独特而沉浸的体验旅程。

The design thoughtfully addresses the diverse needs of its visitors, creating an immersive experience that draws them into the space. Quiet reading nooks are strategically placed, offering peaceful retreats within the bustling environment. Drawing inspiration from traditional libraries with narrow walkways, the design features a dynamic arrangement that encourages both ascending and descending movements, making the space engaging and accessible for visitors of all ages. The steps themselves are cleverly integrated, doubling as reading spots where visitors can sit and enjoy a book while being part of the flow of the space. With bookshelves lining the pathways, the design encourages an interactive, layered environment. This interplay of compact, functional spaces with strategic pause points elevates the bookstore from a simple retail space to a unique, immersive journey.

室内设计与建筑创新相互呼应，以橡胶木与橡木为主的温暖自然材料构建出大地色系的空间基调。这些材料不仅具有审美价值，同时体现了对可持续来源的关注。灯光设计经过精心布置，强调材料的自然肌理与质感。极简灯具保持空间的纯粹，而聚焦于书架顶部的照明则突出展示内容，增强视觉与触觉体验，同时营造出安静而宜人的阅读氛围。天花镜面的运用进一步放大空间感，使书店在视觉上更为开阔与亲切。

The interiors seamlessly complement the architectural innovation with a warm, earthy material palette dominated by rubberwood and oakwood. These materials are selected for aesthetic appeal and sustainability, reflecting a commitment to ethical sourcing. The ambiance is further enhanced by a carefully considered lighting placement that highlights the natural textures and aesthetics of the materials. Minimalistic lights ensure simplicity, while focused lighting that illuminates the tops of the book racks draws attention to the curated collection, enriching the tactile and visual appeal while creating an inviting and peaceful atmosphere ideal for reading. The strategic use of mirrors on the ceiling further amplifies the sense of space, making the store feel visually expansive and even more welcoming.

Where the past meets the future—design, culture, and imagination all shelved in one extraordinary bookstore.

整体而言，“故事项目”是对空间、传统与创造力的致敬。通过重新想象小尺度空间的可能性，设计突破了紧凑的限制，呈现出丰富的感官体验。“The Story Project”这一名称与设计紧密相连，空间中的每一个元素都在讲述一个独特的故事，并通过空间布局、材料与氛围逐步展开。植根于加尔各答深厚的文化传统与文学历史，这一设计向这座孕育思想家、作家与学者的城市致敬。阶梯井结构等元素唤起历史记忆，而当代空间手法则将其转译为面向当代访客的生动体验，体现出文化与思想传统在空间中的延续。

In its entirety, The Story Project is a celebration of space, lineage, and creativity. By reimagining the possibilities of a small footprint, the design transcends the limitations of its tightness, offering a rich tapestry of sensory design. The name, The Story Project, is closely linked to its design, with each element of the space telling a unique story that unfolds through its spatial layout, materials, and atmosphere. Rooted in the rich legacy of Kolkata and its intellectual pursuit and literary history, this design honours the tradition of a town that nurtures thinkers, writers, and scholars. Elements such as the stepwell-inspired structure evoke the past, and the modern spatial approach ensures these influences are translated into a vibrant experience for today’s visitors, reflecting the enduring cultural and intellectual legacy in its design manifestation.
