The central theme of this year’s edition is Metamorphosis, understood as an exploration of transformation, change and adaptation. The exhibition focuses on transformation driven by experimentation, the development of new materials and the technologies available to us today, highlighting the challenge currently facing the world of design: interpreting contemporary scenarios and envisioning future ones. At the centre remains the human being, with their needs and desires, but the focus inevitably extends to our relationship with the planet, its resources and the ways in which we interact with the environment around us, building a virtuous connection between the individual, space and nature.

Visitors are welcomed and introduced to the exhibition’s theme by a site-specific installation by the Lebanese-born, Paris-based architect Lina Ghotmeh, entitled Metamorphosis in Motion, which serves as the visual and conceptual centrepiece for the entire exhibition. Applying her signature design philosophy, which she defines as the “Archeology of the Future,” Lina Ghotmeh transforms the space of the Cortile d’Onore with an installation that weaves together memory, landscape, and space. Inspired by the history of the Palace and by the courtyard’s role as a place of reception and public representation—a scenographic threshold where ceremonies, encounters, and performances unfolded, as well as a space of transition between the city and the palace.

Metamorphosis in Motion embraces the ambition to choreograph movement, frame perception, and transform architecture into a lived spectacle. Interpreting metamorphosis as an intense spatial process, where form and experience evolve together, the installation stands out for its contrast with the symmetry of its surroundings. The pavilion unfolds through curved geometries, shifting perspectives, and a sequential path. What might otherwise remain a static scenography is reimagined as an experiential space.

Conceived as a square labyrinth measuring 17 meters per side and composed of 18 modules, Metamorphosis in Motion traces the geometry and lines of the courtyard at Palazzo Litta while operating as a sensory device that mediates between conservation and activation. The installation transforms the courtyard into a space for multiple gatherings, where architecture is continuously reinterpreted through movement, light, and time. The spaces defined by the modular structure are designed to accommodate diverse ways of experiencing the pavilion, encouraging sensory perception and dialogue with the surrounding context, and inviting visitors to engage in new forms of togetherness and interaction. The installation unfolds into a sequence of functional and sensory zones, turning the environment into a site of active participation.

装置还包括Frab’s Magazines书店,以及“A Moment of Taste”体验区,呈现Tre Marie与Vitavigor的产品。
The structure—crafted from MDF and finished with Milesi Vernici coatings in varying shades of pink and textured surfaces—articulates a pathway that includes seating areas by Avalon Italia and a dedicated talk space, both conceived to foster exchange and social interaction. The sensory journey is further enriched by a meditative space and an immersive sound area, alongside an olfactory experience curated by Scent Company. Featuring notes of cypress, olibanum, and cedar, this composition evokes Lebanon—Lina Ghotmeh’s homeland—transforming memory into a ritualized spatial experience. Completing the installation are Frab’s Magazines bookshop and the A Moment of Taste area, featuring products by Tre Marie and Vitavigor.

Lina Ghotmeh – here at her first site-specific outdoor work in Italy – has developed a design approach she defines as the ‘Archeology of the Future’, a method that intertwines memory, landscape, and space, deeply influenced by the cultural and historical layers of her home city, Beirut. After studying at the American University of Beirut and completing her education at the the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris— where she also worked as a professor—Ghotmeh has established a sensitive and innovative architectural vision, capable of blending precision, poetry, and a profound respect for the site.

Her interdisciplinary methodology is also evident in the projects of her Paris-based firm, Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture, which takes an integrated approach that integrates historical research, sensitive observation and constant experimentation. This methodology is also reflected in the projects themselves, which engage in dialogue with their context revealing its stratifications. Among her most significant works are the workshops for Venice Biennale, MAXXI in Rome, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Danish Architecture Center. Recently, Lina Ghotmeh was appointed architect for the British Museum’s western range renovation, she was named to the TIME100 Next 2025 list and received the Gold Award for Best Architecture and Landscape for the Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.

In keeping with previous editions, the courtyard of Palazzo Litta once again serves as the visual prelude to Mosca Partners Variations, and as the first encounter with the theme of Metamorphosis, which Ghotmeh interprets through her design lens, as an architectural journey—where movement and memory work together to reveal layered identities within one space. Drawing inspiration from the Baroque style of Palazzo Litta, her installation is not merely something to walk through but becomes a gateway to the myriad visions presented by the exhibitors in the rooms—also Baroque in style—of the Palazzo’s Piano Nobile.

“Returning to Palazzo Litta with Mosca Partners Variations 2026 means reigniting a dialogue between history and the search for design solutions to the challenges of the contemporary world,” says Caterina Mosca, founder of Mosca Partners. “The theme Metamorphosis is not a mere aesthetic exploration, but the very essence of design understood as dynamic adaptation: a need for profound change that looks beyond the object to focus on regeneration and a new balance between human beings and the natural environment. In these historic spaces, the visions of twenty-five international exhibitors from eleven countries converge in a collective ecosystem, where technological innovation and sensitivity to materials are redefining the boundaries of living. A dynamic narrative introduced by the installation by Lina Ghotmeh, one of the most compelling architects on the international scene, whose poetic vision connects in a delicate yet incisive way with the palace’s spaces and our exhibition project. Metamorphosis in Motion, acts as a conceptual threshold that transforms the perception of space into a participatory experience that charts the coordinates of a more conscious future.”

Mosca Partners Variations continues through the rooms of the palace —now headquarters of the Ministry of Culture — where a collective narrative takes shape, reinterpreting the exhibition’s concept. This approach reflects the design philosophy of Mosca Partners, a vision established since their first intervention in 2014 at this very venue. It was then that the palace was first unveiled to the design public, thanks to the foresight of founders Caterina Mosca and Valerio Castelli.
The exhibition explores a range of through projects, special series, industrial productions, serial collections, craftsmanship, and materials in which creativity is constantly reinvented, adapting to the changes and challenges of the present, as part of an exploration of the role of design in paving the way towards a more conscious, ethical and regenerative approach to consumption.
