A new unique facility for Russia — a multidisciplinary private medical center of the “My Medical Center” group of companies. The high-tech clinic “Beloostrov” is located on the border of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, with an external area of 30.5 hectares. The main building covers 112,000 m², the oncology center 13,000 m², and the laboratory center 7,000 m².The facility is positioned as a medical city, where clients have access to virtually all types of medical services, from emergency medical care and urgent cases to therapeutic physical training and rehabilitation. The vast external territory features landscaping, walking zones, greenery, modern interior solutions, equipment, and, of course, our navigation system — all designed to ensure the maximum comfort of patients staying in the medical center.
Wayfinding Signage Design
To develop navigation media that harmoniously blend with the territory and interiors of the medical complex, we focused on the architecture. The main building features a unique shape, consisting of six elongated sections. The façade design is based on smooth, rounded lines and forms. An expressive metal trim of varying thickness gives the façade a distinctive character. Rounded contours also predominate in the interiors. All of these characteristic features served as the foundation for the design of the navigation media.
External Wayfinding System
The vast territory of the medical center includes a checkpoint and kilometers of roads and pedestrian paths. To help drivers and pedestrians orient themselves, we developed an external navigation system that guides people from the checkpoint to the entrance of the desired building. The system includes pedestrian navigation (fingerpost-style signs, site maps), vehicle navigation (parking markers, parking signs, large vehicle steles), markers for buildings, checkpoints, and all entrances.Special routes are highlighted in the navigation system for emergency medical services: red indicates the general admission department, and purple marks the pediatric department.
Internal Wayfinding System
The internal navigation system at this facility represents a unique experience for us — almost all media were produced using molding technology, which allowed us to achieve unique shapes, bevels, height variations, and recesses. The medical center has a very complex and intricate corridor architecture, and our navigation acts as a guiding thread that connects all these corridors into a coherent system.
An important decision for this project is also the color coding based on the interiors: the colors of the navigation elements, corridor finishes, and furniture all coincide. Nearly 40 different shades were specifically selected for this facility.
Medical Triage
Any modern hospital with an emergency department includes the separation of incoming patient flows. At “Beloostrov,” a three-color system was implemented to separate flows according to the severity of the patient’s condition (green, yellow, and red).
This system, along with clear route markings, will help save numerous lives and protect the health of future patients.
Children’s Department
Special attention at the facility is given to children: dedicated children’s departments were created with specially selected interiors, including the design of wards and furniture. Our contribution was in the wall decoration — based on the animated series “Three Cats,” we developed wall graphics, and the characters from the wallpaper interact thematically with our navigation system.
VIP Department
A separate navigation design was developed for the paid departments.Unique solutions—including premium-shaped media, materials, and lighting of nearly all navigation elements—helped enhance and enrich the interiors, creating a space that is, on one hand, premium, and on the other, comfortable and cozy for patients.
