Local studio Königsberger Vannucchi Arquitetos Associados has completed a residential skyscraper in São Paulo lined with wood cladding,  a "rare application in Brazil".

The Bueno Brandão 257 tower is located in São Paulo's Vila Nova Conceição neighbourhood and contains one 5,381-square-foot (500-square-metre) apartment on each of its 22 floors, as well as amenities.

The skyscraper has a rectangular silhouette. It is supported by an external perimeter superstructure that wraps up and over the building's sides.

Exposed concrete floor plates run along the facade and are intersected by planes of Finnish timber cladding. Light, sandy porcelain panels cover the rest of the building exterior, while the apartments are lined with panes of glass.

According to the team, the porcelain is "high-performance" and the wood was treated for fire-resistance.

"The facade is one of the project's most distinctive elements," said the team. "It is one of the rare projects in Brazil to employ this type of external wood cladding, whose warm and precise texture enhances the sensory dimension of the architecture."

The skyscraper was also designed to respond to orientation. On its northeast facade, it is lined with planters to provide shading, solar filtering and "reinforce the biophilic language".

On its northwest facade, which is more exposed to noise and solar radiation according to the team, the facade is more opaque.

Cross ventilation was prioritised across the whole project, integrated with other systems geared towards energy efficiency such as solar heating and rainwater harvesting for irrigation and maintenance.

The building's program includes a second-floor area with a gym, swimming pool, and spa.

A duplex penthouse has a private pool and outdoor terraces on the tower's crown.

The lobby is double-height, with exposed concrete columns, while the entrance is clad in thin, vertical wood slats.

"The character of the surroundings – quiet, green, and predominantly residential – inspired an architecture that values comfort, texture, materiality, and subtle integration with the urban landscape," said the team.

Elsewhere in São Paulo, Königsberger Vannucchi Arquitetos Associados recently completed the city's tallest skyscraper, while architecture studio Triptyque completed a tower wrapped in planters.
