Urban Core — Rapid Exterior Concept #1
Overview
This concept was created as a rapid exterior study based on extremely limited input and tight deadlines. At the start, there was only a simple model of two modern towers with no surrounding context or environment.
The goal was to quickly build a convincing architectural composition with atmosphere, scale, and mood.
Concept exploration
The process began with fast black - and - white sketches. At this stage, the focus was not on detail, but on finding the overall form, scale, and composition.
The scene was initially solved in a very global way: simple boxes planes large tonal masses basic city silhouettes
This approach allows quick testing of composition without wasting time on details.
Urban composition
After defining the main idea, I moved to building the city context.
The key principle: the city grows around the dominant object.
So the concept included: a central park, an axis leading to the towers, a water ring around the green zone, dense urban fabric around the core.
Massing strategy
The scene was filled very quickly and roughly.
The city was built in several layers: low-rise, mid-rise, high-rise.
Main compositional accents were placed manually, while the rest of the city was generated as mass blocks to create density.
Landscape and base
Since the visual focus is in the center of the frame, the lower part needed to feel calmer and more organic.
The foreground was solved with: dark reflective water, dense greenery, soft terrain shapes.
The landscape was quickly modeled in 3D, then: buildings were scattered across the mass, gaps were filled with trees, the background was formed using scaled rock assets.
Lighting and mood
Aerial views usually work best in: daylight golden hour
I chose golden hour to: emphasize the tower’s form add depth to the scene create a warm light–shadow contrast
The sun was placed almost perpendicular to the camera for a classic architectural look.
Base render
Materials at this stage were intentionally simple: flat base colors, default materials from the models.
The goal was not final detail, but the right mood and composition.
After the base render, the scene was refined through several AI iterations.
Main tasks:
enhance building details
refine greenery
search for atmospheric background
partially replace certain city areas
The final image was assembled and balanced in Photoshop.
The final shot combines: a fast 3D base, lighting composition, AI enhancements, manual compositing.
The main idea of the project is to show how a convincing architectural concept can be built quickly from minimal input.
