ABOUT
The central bus station is the main bus station in Kyiv.It is located on Demievskaya Square, on Demievka. Built in 1957-1961 (architects Abraham Miletsky, I. N. Melnik, Eduard Bilsky). It was designed based on the daily departure of 600 buses of 50 intercity routes serving 7 thousand passengers. The Kyiv bus station sends domestic flights to Ukrainian cities and international flights to European countries. In the main hall there are ticket offices for the sale of tickets for flights of the bus station, as well as ticket offices of carriers.
CONCEPT | ARCHITECTURE
The challenge for us was to reconstruct a building of a modern type and preserve echoes of history. We followed the path of constructivism, which enabled us to reproduce simple, geometrically understandable forms.
Depending on the tasks set before us, we started to make the first concepts to understand how it will look, we started to make in 3D. They began to add details and work on the surroundings more.
And the first such details were the main facade, which we had to develop with integrated lighting. What made it possible to update the face of the station and perceive it in a completely different way. Also, the main thing for us was the development and improvement of services for people with limited mobility. Therefore, an elevator was built from the outside of the station facade. And escalators in the interior for more comfortable crossing of floors for pensioners and people with disabilities. We returned the historical stele with the letters "Station".
An LED screen with useful information was made on the cover.
INTERIOR
The interior of the central bus station was in a very bad condition. Therefore, it was decided to make it completely modern. With the technology of user passes. Restricting entry to outsiders as it was before the reconstruction. In the process of working on the interior decoration, we turned to modernist artists Volodymyr Melnichenko and Ada Rybachuk, who made a historically valuable mosaic. Currently, a fund was created and professional restorers together with volunteers were responsible for it. So the mosaic was preserved in the walls of the bus station and attracts the attention of users.
So far, 3D concepts of the future interior of the bus station have been created. Which was approved. It was important to create an environment in which the bus station will play the role of both a city transport facility and a facility where you can rest while waiting for your trip. Light colors were chosen, as well as materials such as concrete and tiles. On the first floor there is a retail store and a supermarket.
The second floor was made with a waiting room, cash registers and places to have a snack.
The third floor was made with recreation rooms. Hotel rooms and hostel premises. And vip zone.Regarding the design, decorative lighting and flexible ice were made in the ceiling openings, which added atmosphere to the 3rd floor.
This is what the lighting installation looked like on the third floor.
This project gave us a lot of experience. There were many complex decisions and very rapid changes. But we are proud that we were able to make the reconstruction the way it is now.
Thanks for watching!
