Every year, the country's main department store traditionally starts autumn with the premiere of a new art season. In 2022, the main inspiration for TSUM's creative team was the Ukrainian folk heritage, which is embodied in seven storefront windows based on items from the collection of the Ivan Honchar Museum.
The process of creating each of the showcases symbolically embodied the unity of Ukraine, uniting the work of craftsmen and entrepreneurs from different parts of the country.
Thus, it took 50 hours to paint the handmade copies of Kosiv ceramics. It took more than 24 hours to recreate a 1909 chest from the museum's collection. The "Pottery" showcase contains objects from five regions of Ukraine, which together tell the story of traditional forms of Ukrainian ceramics and pottery. 20 sheaves of reeds were brought to Kyiv from Odesa region to create the decor of the Folk Architecture window, inspired by elements of a Ukrainian hut. The Trinity candlestick, made of linden and decorated with traditional Hutsul ornaments, is the work of Hutsul craftsmen who create replicas of authentic ancient objects. In total, 3 kilometers of ribbons, 100 kilograms of oats, and 12 types of dried flowers from the Kyiv region were used in the showcases. The house that appears in the video showcase on the Ukrainian rushnyk was filmed in Poltava Oblast, where it has been standing for over 100 years on the territory of an old Cossack farm. The owner restored the authentic roof with his own hands, just like his grandfather used to do.
