Gentbrugge isn’t just a place to charge your vehicle. It brings Fastned’s vision of the future service area to life. A patch of concrete is transformed into a landscape where natural materials and greenery define the experience, a natural pause in people’s journey. Human-centered design is essential to encourage more drivers to switch to electric and move towards a sustainable future.

The architectural language of the building is defined by the close relationship to the charging station. Both structures share a unified identity, drawing inspiration from the rhythms of nature. The shop’s roof mirrors the dynamic, solar tree canopy of the charging station, with gentle sloping lines, bold yellow accents, and a modular design for flexibility and future expansion. Green roofs, vegetated façades, and lush landscaping blur the boundaries between built and natural environments, creating a cohesive and recognizable identity that stands out for travelers.

The spatial organization of the shop is designed to accommodate a wide range of visitor needs, from quick stops to extended breaks. Transparent façades and open-plan public areas create a light-filled, welcoming atmosphere, while more private zones are discreetly enclosed. Outdoor spaces are embedded in greenery, offering opportunities for relaxation, recreation, and social interaction. The orientation and layout maximize views of nature and shield visitors from highway noise, so people can truly recharge.

Every detail, from accessibility to the use of sustainable materials, contributes to a nature-inspired experience. The building is constructed with circular materials, making it easy to disassemble and re-use at end of life. Solar panels, eco-friendly materials, and smart systems ensure energy efficiency and a positive environmental impact. The result is a service area that not only meets the practical needs of today’s travelers, but also sets a new standard for comfort, well-being, and sustainability, an iconic destination for the future of mobility.
