Accommodation Cabin – Puyu Glamping
Puyo, EcuadorThe project is part of the expansion of a lodging facility oriented toward couples in the city of Puyo, in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Following the acquisition of a new plot of land, the development proposes independent cabins aimed at guests seeking privacy and a connection with nature. The design incorporates lessons learned from previous units, integrating solutions that optimize both the user experience and service operations.
The cabin is conceived as a private refuge immersed in the Amazonian landscape. Along the sides and rear, a 2.20-meter-high perimeter enclosure protects privacy from the access path and the communal walkway that will connect future units. This boundary avoids a sense of confinement through a continuous upper band of windows that allows natural light to enter, promotes cross-ventilation, and maintains a constant visual relationship with the surrounding vegetation.
In contrast, the front façade opens completely toward the river and landscape, making the view the defining feature of the living space. Casement windows in the bedroom allow full opening, reinforcing the sensation of immersion in the natural environment. The program includes a covered outdoor area that functions as an extension of the interior space. This area incorporates a dining space, a floating lounge net, and a jacuzzi oriented toward the landscape. An intermediate wall separates this zone from the bedroom, allowing staff to deliver food or additional services without invading guests’ privacy.
The construction system responds to the climatic conditions of the Amazon. An exterior metal cladding protects the structure from the region’s characteristic lateral rains and creates an air chamber that improves interior thermal comfort. The single-slope roof rises toward the main view, expanding spatial perception and enhancing natural light capture.Raised on stilts, the cabin adopts a traditional Amazonian construction strategy that separates the structure from ground moisture, prevents flooding, and reduces the presence of insects.
Handcrafted furniture made from bent smooth steel rods provides visual lightness and a sense of flotation, complemented by wooden shelving. Indirect lighting emphasizes natural textures and creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
