Bobonaza Cabin — Lodging in Canelos
This project was born from the vision of the client, owner of a carefully preserved property, who wanted to develop a lodging space that welcomes families and couples to enjoy the unique nature of Canelos.
The property is located in a privileged environment next to the Bobonaza River. To keep the natural landscape untouched, the decision was made to use the footprint of an old caretaker’s cabin—already deteriorated—and replace it with the new Bobonaza Cabin, positioned right in front of the river. In this way, the intervention is limited to an already occupied area, preserving the existing natural surroundings.
The cabin is composed of two versatile bedrooms that can adapt to different furniture layouts, and a central bathroom block that acts as a tectonic barrier, providing privacy for both rooms.
The roof features a double-roof system inspired by solutions commonly used in warm countries, such as in Africa. This design lifts the roof above the structure, creating a ventilation chamber that significantly improves thermal comfort without the need for air conditioning.
The wooden beams work with a tensioning system anchored to a central point to prevent buckling, optimizing the use of this natural resource in combination with modern technologies and the strength of metal.
The project incorporates cross ventilation to maximize indoor comfort, along with a small study area and an outdoor café—spaces designed to offer the essentials while allowing guests to connect with the landscape.
The property also offers complementary activities such as hiking trails, natural river swimming, local wildlife observation, a restaurant, outdoor dining areas, camping zones, and a fire pit.
Bobonaza Cabin: a retreat designed for rest, disconnection, and an authentic Amazonian experience.
