Competition project: Tiny Library in Braslav
introduction from the competition authors: Tiny Library 2025 Architecture Competition challenges you to rethink a library of the 21st-century public space where knowledge is not limited to books. The project should address not only architectural issues, but also the problems of abandoned cities.
1 / CONCEPT
Belarus is a small country in the heart of Europe, often seen through the lens of "coconut culture": reserved on the outside, warm and generous within.
Braslav - a tiny town tucked among lakes - mirrors this spirit. Quiet, remote, almost invisible. Yet once a year, it becomes a beacon. During Viva Braslav, a local festival, the town lights up, transforming into a momentary capital of joy. For a brief time, it's a Cinderella on the world's stage - showing that small places, too, carry depth, rhythm, and soul.
When the music fades, silence returns - along with scattered traces of celebration. But what if those remains could become a gift? A library, built from recycled pallets once used to transport beer cans. A place shaped from what was left behind.
2 / THE CONCEPT OF SHAPING
3 / GROUND FLOOR PLAN
This library would serve as a quiet landmark, blending two worlds: the hurried pace of city life and the slow, soulful current of the local. Visitors could leave behind a thought, a memory, a story - and take a piece of Braslav with them in return. A capsule of shared moments, hidden between the shelves...
like a whisper from the lakes, held gently on the page....
