M Moser’s London studio design integrates spatial elements to enhance behavior, productivity, and collaboration, achieving high occupancy levels with a focus on fluidity, acoustics, sustainability, and brand storytelling.
M Moser’s London studio has been designed as a living lab. A workplace that actively explores how spatial design influences behaviour, collaboration and productivity. Since relocating, the studio has already reached the occupancy levels forecast for 2030, with post-occupancy research showing that 82% of the team feel more productive and attendance has increased by 20%. The project demonstrates how a carefully integrated workplace strategy can translate into measurable business outcomes.
Located along the River Thames, the studio balances hospitality, performance and experimentation. The design reflects the way work naturally shifts between focus, collaboration and informal interaction throughout the day. Rather than separating these modes into rigid zones, the space supports fluid movement between them, enabling people to choose environments that match their energy levels and tasks.
A key challenge addressed by the design was the relationship between focus and collaboration. In many workplaces, these functions compete for space, often resulting in loud collaborative areas and isolated focus rooms. The London studio instead integrates these needs more seamlessly. A distraction-free zone provides a quiet environment where individuals can work alongside one another without interruption. A soft curtain enclosure reduces visual distractions from the open plan while a no-conversation rule helps maintain acoustic comfort. Nearby, enclosed project rooms support concentrated group work and creative sessions.
Materiality and spatial character also play an important role in shaping behaviour. The arrival area is warm and welcoming, creating a hospitality-inspired experience for visitors and staff alike. As people move deeper into the studio, the atmosphere becomes more work-focused. Informal lounges encourage spontaneous interaction, while structured work areas support concentration. Lighting, furniture and material choices subtly guide these transitions, creating a rhythm of spaces that support different modes of work.
Acoustics were a central design consideration. While open-plan environments encourage knowledge sharing and cross-project collaboration, uncontrolled noise can quickly undermine productivity. The design team integrated multiple acoustic strategies to manage sound without compromising openness. Suspended ceilings with additional overhead space absorb sound energy, while bulkheads help interrupt sound paths and create subtle spatial zoning. Acoustic-backed flooring, planters and carefully spaced workstations further reduce noise build-up, resulting in a noticeable improvement compared to the previous office.
The studio also serves as a platform for brand storytelling. Rather than relying on overt graphics, the brand is expressed through the experience of the space itself. Artwork plays a central role in this narrative. A rotating artwork display greets visitors at the entrance, creating a gallery-like moment within the workplace. In meeting rooms, pieces inspired by architectural forms from M Moser’s global offices translate local and international design references into visual storytelling.
Sustainability was embedded throughout the project. Existing joinery, kitchen units and white goods from the previous studio were carefully audited and reused wherever possible. Furniture, fittings and plants that could not be integrated into the new design were rehomed to avoid landfill. Prefabricated joinery reduced construction waste, while precise planning helped minimise flooring overage. Smart building technology now monitors and optimises energy use, supporting the studio’s ambition to achieve net-zero operational carbon.
Through the integration of workplace strategy, design, engineering, technology and change management, M Moser’s London studio demonstrates how the workplace can evolve into a dynamic environment that supports both people and performance. The space continues to inform future projects, allowing the team to test new ideas and translate these insights into workplaces that inspire engagement, creativity and long-term value.
