The Smith residence is a historic bungalow in Salt Lake’s Federal Heights that carries the particular energy of a home that has been lived in for a long time. Once the home of Anna and Robert Bliss, artists and designers who left a huge impact on the art world of the city, the home held an extraordinary collection of art, books, and proof of a lifetime spent making a house a home.
The renovation was guided by that legacy. The aging mechanical and electrical systems were fully replaced, and the kitchen was redesigned out of a love for cooking. New cabinetry and a built-in island finally made the most of the room’s space. Outside of the updated kitchen and bathrooms, though, changes were minimal and deliberate. The warm light, wood floors, and the sense of accumulated life still remain.
