B/lumen* Vegan bar of light

The society of 21th century has diverse possibilities for interaction through digital media but encounter problems in face to face communication. Fairs, expos, biennales are opportunities for people who have same interests; but these areas usually lack of social interaction spaces. This design intends to utilize positive outcomes of technology while focusing on the ecological and social problems of modern society.

“B/lumen*vegan bar of light” project is based on a simple concept of socialization stated with the idiom “gathering under the same roof”. The aim is not only to design a place for eating but also a place for meeting. The idea is iconized with an extended gable roof made up of linear florescent luminaries suspended at different heights. Therefore, the place had its name, b/lumen, from the shortened form of bar-lumen which means the bar of light. The luminous transparent tubes are placed parallel to the ridge at various intervals, forming an illusion of irregular façade for modular design while highlighting the exaggerated length. The design has two different modules; module A is the beginning and ending module consists of twelve florescent lamps at 120 cm and 60 cm lengths. On the other hand module B is the repeating module with eight seats under. It is consist of twenty-four florescent lamps of 120 cm long. The table modules are in basic geometries colored in matte dark grey in contrast with the roof of light. The modules can be arranged in various number and length of lines, parallel or angled to each other depending on the selected area. The selected florescent lamps are from energy efficient category (A) which will reduce the consumed energy. In parallel with its environmental concerns, B/lumen* is an ecological eating concept serving organic vegetarian food which is a symbol for healthy life.
