Narofsky's design of a pool and pool house for a former client preserved a green clearing surrounded by mature trees. Rather than placing the project in the owner’s backyard, our solution moved the pool to an adjacent hill, wedging the pool house into the steep rise to become less of a free-standing structure, and thus minimizing the impact on the landscape.

Steps lead to an accessible roof and an outdoor living room around a fire pit. Both pool and pool house are situated orthogonally, extending the lines of the original house.

The pool has two changing rooms, laundry room, lockers, and guest bath all clad with warm natural finish cedar creating a spa like experience capped off with a secluded outdoor shower and a private walled in garden space. A textured raw concrete wall retains the cut section of the slope, and allows the pool to shift to a position that not only prevents any compromise of the rear yard, but also takes advantage of as much sun exposure as possible. An allée of trees placed at the outer pool edge opposite the retaining wall create the sense of a more private outdoor space. The main walls of the pool house are formed in coordinated textured concrete, as are the lower retaining walls that allowed for leveling off of the main patio adjacent to the pool and pool house roof. The extended roof covers a seating area and service bar.
