Ware Malcomb collaborated with Summit Design + Build to complete the offices for foodservice company Golden State Foods, located in Chicago, Illinois.

Golden State Foods, one of the largest diversified suppliers to the quick service restaurant and retail industry, commissioned the Chicago office of Ware Malcomb to design their new regional innovation center equipped with a state-of-the-art R&D test kitchen and customer experience zone.

The contemporary office set in a timber-loft building was designed to be dynamic and multi-functional with open office space for up to six people, a conference room with a custom 18′ long table and integrated AV wall, and a test kitchen with commercial grade equipment. Golden State Foods opened the new innovation center on the heels of McDonald’s move to Chicago’s West Loop.

Integrative technology was incorporated into the design to create an end-to-end client experience. Custom DIRTT glass storefront carries branding throughout the office and adds dual-AV capabilities in the lounge and conference room. A contrast to the warm woods of the open lounge and open offices, the customer experience zone features a perforated metal ceiling leading directly into the R&D test kitchen’s stainless steel and white tile accents. Also in the customer experience zone, a quartz island with seating for 10, a 55” drop down TV, and feature wall with custom wallpaper set the stage for client meetings and product presentations.

The innovation center also incorporates details such as VCT, ceramic tile with stainless steel inlays, polished concrete floors, custom light fixtures and area rugs, acoustic baffles and a custom glass awards case. Ware Malcomb worked with furniture manufacturer, Nucraft, furniture dealers, Interior Investments and Corporate Concepts, and flooring manufacturers, Ardex and J+J Flooring Group.
