Unispace has created a culture-focused design for the offices of Matador Content, a media production agency located in New York City, New York.
Culture-focused design specifically edited to foster purpose, creates a detailed new home for this media production agency.
Matador Content produces TV, mobile, and digital programming for a wide range of clients so innovation and creativity are integral to their work. Their old space was not promoting those traits so together, we found an inspiring new location and set out to design and build a workplace that was strong on aesthetic, personality and brand.
The new workplace is slightly smaller than their previous one, challenging our designers to fit in the desired program and our construction team to build in extensive sound proofing. With a workload heavy on content editing, there are numerous private offices and tech-enabled focus rooms throughout. We worked smartly, and aligned everything they needed into the new space.
With Matador, our team created a very unique look and feel which focused on home-like qualities, actively staying as far away from a typical corporate office as possible. This included the entry which has a casual appearance, setting the scene for the rest of the office. There is a unique, locking accordion glass wall that closes off the entry elevator bank at night for security, but allows full visibility into the space, very unlike other floors in the building.
To create Matador’s vibe, we reached outside of the box, even with lighting – we added a chandelier-style lights in the open office, and stylistic sconces along the office-fronted hallways. Everything is geared to be less corporate, including the café space which has more of an industrial-retro feel with materials like brass and tin panels.
Out of all the projects we’ve done, this went right down to the smallest detail, including different chairs and furniture for each room and office. This constant variation adds to the residential quality of the space, yet ties everything together in irregular consistency. It also makes the spaces flexible as furniture can be swapped and reconfigured as needed – from an all-nighter crash couch study, to a whiskey-sipping lounge brainstorm.
