The project’s aim was to redesign and reconstruct a roof top apartment in East Berlin. First built in the 90s, the original floor plan presented several problematic aspects regarding circulation, inter-relation of the spaces and use of the surfaces. At the same time – through a integrated construction of steel and wood – we removed some wooden columns.
Our design consisted in optimizing the private rooms in order to consistently enlarge the open-plan living room. Once entered the apartment, a walk through bathroom – on the left the toilett and on the right the shower – leads to the bedroom. The sleeping cell is an in-built wooden piece tailor deisgned in order to fit between the shower room and the living room. Its back wall pops out in the corridor leaving a trace and allowing a clear reading of the spacial organization.
The whole fire protection system was replaced, using materials and constructive principles according to the actual regulation.
The open-plan living area offers high flexibility. Throughout a moving foldable wall floor-to-ceiling.
The whole space can be divided in two separated areas allowing the living part to become a temporary bedroom or a studio
